Wah Fung is the definition of a no-frills Chinatown institution. A true hole-in-the-wall spot where the focus is squarely on the food, not the ambiance.

Service is fast and efficient, but depending on the time of day (and season), expect a line that can stretch to 30 minutes. It moves quickly, though, and the payoff is worth it.

The move here is simple: roast pork over rice. The pork is beautifully caramelized with crisp edges and tender, juicy meat beneath. It’s served over rice with a side of cabbage The roast duck is also solid, though be prepared to navigate bones throughout.

At around $6 for a generous plate (as of my last visit), it remains one of the best value meals in Manhattan.

Cash only! come prepared.

We did a cheap-eats food crawl through the historically rich streets of NYC’s Chinatown, and Wah Fung No. 1 Fast Food absolutely earned its name. This is a cash-only spot, and you should expect to wait at least 20 minutes in line, but the payoff is worth every second. The roast pork and duck are incredibly flavorful, tender, and satisfying. We asked for extra sauce, and that was the right decision. Do not skip that step.

The value here is unmatched. You can get a small lunch plate for just $6, which comes with a generous portion of rice, steamed cabbage, and your choice of roast pork, duck, or chicken. We ordered the large plate with all three meats, shared it between the two of us, and still had leftovers for later that evening.

One important note: if you order the roast duck, eat carefully. The duck is chopped into bite-sized pieces with the bone still inside, so be sure to eat slowly and stay aware.

If you’re anywhere near Chinatown or doing a historic food crawl of NYC’s best cheap eats, Wah Fung should absolutely be on your list. Incredible food, unbeatable prices, and a true New York experience.

What a wait but for the price and food quality, it was well worth it. Definitely go early to avoid longer queues. That would probably mean opening time . Ordered the 2 meat for $9 nett. Generous serving of BBQ pork (Char siew) and Roast Duck (that was not just bones and meats which some of the other restaurants serve in Chinatown). If you feel in the mood for some pastries as after meal snacks, you can check out the shop on the right of it.

The strong points are the extremely affordable price and good taste. Personally, I think the roast duck rice is better than the pork and chicken. Also, since the sauce served with the rice is a bit limited, if you want it to taste better, you should ask for extra sauce. The only things I didn’t like were that they only accept cash and that you have to wait over 30 minutes to get your food. However, the price is so good and the food quality is solid, so I think it’s definitely worth coming back, just make sure to factor in the waiting time if you’re in a hurry.

It’s exactly what it says it is. We were in town for the weekend and had to check it out since it was near by. It was freezing that day and we waited in line outside for about 20 mins. I could tell there were a lot of locals so I knew it was going to be good.
We were so full from just eating so we got a small pork and duck bowl just to try, it was the perfect portion. It comes over rice and cabbage. The pork, was tender and flavorful, the duck was alright. All that for less than $7.00 was unbelievable. I can totally see why people were lined up to get that pork and they ordered the big boxes.

Hands down the best Chinese BBQ spot in Chinatown. Amazing, bomb, and ridiculously cheap, what else could you ask for? This place never disappoints. The roasted pig and BBQ pork are straight-up magical: perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with deep, savory flavor.

There’s nothing fancy here, and that’s part of the charm. You come for incredible food at unbeatable prices, and they deliver every single time. I genuinely love this place with my life, no exaggeration. Every visit to NYC, this is an absolute must for me, no excuses.

If you’re into authentic Chinese BBQ and want something insanely good without breaking the bank, this spot is non-negotiable. One bite and you’ll understand why people keep coming back.

“Wah Fung No.1 Fast Food” in Chinatown never disappoints. There’s always a line outside, and honestly, I’m not surprised — this place is all about value. It’s not the most “refined” roast meat in the city, but the portions are unbeatable for the price.

I ordered the roast duck and roast pork over rice. Look at how much food they give you — I couldn’t even finish it, and it was only $9! The flavor leans slightly sweet, super easy to enjoy. The duck has a saltier kick compared to the pork, which balances the dish really well.

If you’re in Chinatown and want something tasty, fast, and crazy affordable, this spot is always worth a stop.

I got the famous roast pork with Rice. Very generous portion of pork. I was full for the $6 I paid. The line was not that long when I was there but the lines are very long in general. Totally worth it tho!!!

Amazing food! You get a nice portion of bbq pork or chicken. Over rice and cabbage. Super delish. Not much of atmosphere as it is take out only. We stood in line in the cold for awhile and it is worth it!! We took the food and found a street corner to eat.

First time having duck and wow this place was awesome! There’s a line outside but not too bad, chicken plate was also pretty good but duck was definitely top tier!! Highly recommend if you’re in the area or wanting to try duck! Also very good pricing!! Definitely will come back when I’m in NYC again!! Good job!
