I’m more of fan of TG2 but Top Gun is Top Gun. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt across the street during Christmas and came over with kids for dinner one night. Speaking of timing, both TG and TG2 were playing on TV the night before so I prepped my kids about the restaurant.
The price was very friendly for a touristy city and a landmark. Flavor wise not the top KC BBQ, but pretty good. Brisket was the best out of the things we ordered, follow by the ribs.

We were really lucky to go for lunch and apparently missed the lunch crowd! Had the place practically to ourselves! It was our first time and seeing all the movie memorabilia was awesome! It’s a lot smaller than I expected and seems a bit run down. The service was decent our server was really nice to my granddaughter and even gave her a sample of the Mac and cheese! The food was served fairly quickly and was pretty good. We tried the ribs and brisket sandwich the bbq sauce is great! The fries are crunchy and the meat had good flavor. Great place for top gun fans and to take pics! We found street parking right away which is not common for downtown San Diego.

Coming to this place was pretty cool. They filmed the piano scene from Top Gun here and there is tons of history and nostalgia in this restaurant. Bbq was meh but the fried pickles are to die for.

If you’re in San Diego, you have to come here. Not just for the Top Gun nostalgia, but also the great service and food. We both had the BBQ combo. Really good value and tasty. the brisket was nice and thick and juicy. Also great Top Gun memorabilia, with a dive bar feel, rather than a horrible corporate makeover. Loved it!

I would give a 5 star to Kansas City Barbeque (in San Diego). I did have a good experience. Service and attention to customers is OK. Meals are OK too, perhaps with opportunity (meat tenderness) to be better, taste of barbecue is good whatsoever.
Restaurant is centric (downtown) and nice among contemporary buildings in San Diego, CA.
Of course, it might be a traditional visit. If you are in the area and want to know this place and bar where where some shots of “Top Gun movie” were filmed.

So cool to visit the Top Gun bar. It’s so much smaller than I expected, but they have “the” piano, a Top Gun shot, and shot glass, and Top Gun themed drinks. The bartender, Alissa, is super cool! Definitely worth a visit if you like Top Gun, KC BBQ, and a fun bar!

I think this place’s rating is a bit unfair. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and given a great spot at the bar. I went in with low expectations for the food (having been to some of the best BBQ spots in Texas and not expecting much in San Diego), but I was honestly surprised. This place serves one of the best briskets I’ve ever had. Highly recommended.

For starters, this place is very unassuming but the draw is that this is the bar where they shot the original Top Gun movie. The piano is still over in the corner (our table was right beside it). You can sit at the table where they shot the scene. Cool atmosphere. Food is great. Try the pulled pork sandwich, it won’t disappoint. Several different beers on tap too. Great place to eat on Harbor street.

As everyone knows this place was in the movie Top Gun. Go take your photo with the piano and grab a quick bite.
Food wise, it was just ok. Not terrible but not a place I would go out of my way to visit if you don’t care about the movie.
Got the combo with the ribs and burnt bits. Decent on both. The slaw was not that great. Do not get it. Baked beans tastes normal.
Service is great. If your party is 8 or more you can’t split checks and they charge you 18% gratuity automatically.

This restaurant was made famous by the original Top Gun movie with Tom Cruise. The restaurant was featured in the bar scene where Goose plays the “Great Balls of Fire” song.
While the place has a great atmosphere, and lots of movie memorabilia, the food itself was just okay. Not the best BBQ, and not the worst.
I would not really make the effort to come here unless you were a big Top Gun fan.
