Stopped by here during my layover at Charlotte Airport (CKT). The decor is great, staff friendly and the food is good. I had the Texas Tequila Bacon Chedder Burger with tator tots. The burger was phenomenal and a great price. The two cocktails I had were a bit pricey but it is an airport and stuff is always expensive at the airport. The decor is awesome, they have a wall of belt buckles, cow pattern chair backs and a mechanical bull. Service was quick and friendly. I will definitely be back

RECOMMENDED. one of those good restaurants that are in airports these days. Not a big menu but I had a “Texas Burbon”burger and my wife ate chicken tenders and those were both really good. Better than usual fries too. WARNING: No Tabasco or any other hot sausages here. Weird, right? Maybe that’s a Carolina thing. No hot sauce. Texas burger. Weird. But it was a tasty, tangy burger!!!

Food was absolutely underwhelming. I don’t have high expectations for airport food, but this was beyond disappointing. We got chicken tenders that had zero seasoning and looked like they came from a freezer bag in the way back. Especially for the price. Do watch out that the cocktails are made with double pours so that does mean double pour price ($25 for a Moscow mule). Service is very nice.

Just going to keep this short shove I’m traveling. Got the dirty tots, the Texas tequila bacon cheddar burger and a double shot of moonshine.

It took forever to even be sat, then about 10 minutes for my drink order to be taken, another 10 min for the food order to be taken. Drink came out quick and was surprisingly really smooth with a great corn taste.
The tots took about 20 mins to come out and were stale and cold.
The burger came out about 35 min later. It was overcooked, dry, flavorless and cold.
Much like the owner, Dale Earnhardt Jr, it’s overpriced, overhyped, slow and mediocre at best.

Save your money and only go if everything else is closed and you have at least a 2hr layover, otherwise you’ll miss your flight.

Got to CLT airport before 7am and went to Whiskey River to have a beer before my flight. Bartender was nice and prompt. I didn’t order food but peoples orders came out fast and looked/smelled good.

We decided to dine here while our flight was delayed.

Food: Overall, the food was overpriced and lacked flavor. We ordered the 6 chicken wings for $20. I had the cheese and pulled pork potatoes — the pulled pork was hot, tasty, and honestly could be a dish by itself, but the rest was just okay. I also had 6 lemon pepper wings, which were a decent size, but the taste and the wet/tempura-style batter were not appealing. My husband had a burger, which was just okay as well.

Drinks: Cocktails are pricey — a Long Island iced tea was $22.

Availability: They were out of ranch dressing, beef brisket, and corn relish, and my husband ended up getting the last two burger patties they had. Staff explained that the commissary was short on or missing these products.

Service: Our waiter was quirky and friendly, and we appreciated the military discount they offer.

I’m not a fan of the “scan QR code to order” deal, though we did have a waiter who took our initial orders. I attempted to place an extra drink order via QR code and it took forever to get it. That being said, the brisket grilled cheese was phenomenal. You only notice you’re in an airport when someone comes in with their carry on luggage. It’s a pretty decent spot to kill a 2 hour layover.

The burger was pretty good, and the Long Island iced tea was perfect. Pricey, as expected. I was surprised that the server didn’t take any details on how I wanted my burger, I had to confirm that he received the request. Luckily I didn’t mind the egg over easy on my burger.

Whiskey River at Charlotte Douglas Airport offered a truly unique atmosphere—definitely a standout among typical airport dining options. The rustic-meets-modern vibe, combined with live music and a lively bar, makes it feel more like a destination restaurant than just a quick airport stopover.

One of the biggest highlights of my visit was the live music. The artist performing during my meal was exceptionally talented and really elevated the whole experience. It gave the space a great energy and made waiting for my flight genuinely enjoyable. It’s rare to find such quality entertainment inside an airport!

When it came to the food, I was pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. Everything served was generous—especially for an airport restaurant—and the flavors were solid. I didn’t feel like I was being shorted just because it was a quick-grab meal while traveling.

That said, the service could have been better. It wasn’t terrible, but definitely slower than expected, especially considering airport travelers are usually on tighter schedules. The staff was friendly enough, but there seemed to be a staffing shortage that affected the speed of both seating and food delivery. It’s something I hope they improve because the rest of the experience was worth it.

Prices are what you’d expect at the airport—slightly higher than normal, but nothing outrageous. For the portion sizes and the overall vibe, I felt it was fair.

Cleanliness was also on point. The tables were wiped down promptly, and while the floors weren’t spotless, they were relatively clean and definitely not a concern. For a high-traffic airport venue, they’re doing a decent job keeping things in order.

Overall, I’d probably visit Whiskey River again if they’re a bit better staffed. The atmosphere, live music, and satisfying food make it a worthwhile stop if you’ve got some time to spare during a layover. Not perfect, but definitely one of the better airport dining experiences I’ve had.

I was really disappointed with the Buffalo chicken sandwich — the chicken portion was surprisingly small and thin. For the price, I expected something more substantial. Even a Chick-fil-A sandwich has a much larger and better-quality chicken breast.
