The first time we ate here was at the peak of COVID and they brought our food to our car. Food was just ok, but since it was during COVID, we gave them a pass. The second time was when things were opening up a little and we were able to pick up our order inside the restaurant. My husband got the NY strip and it was literally inedible. It was mostly gristle and fat and very overcooked. He ordered rare. We thought again, COVID and some foods don’t travel well. The third time was when they allowed seating inside and the food was a little better. We thought as they get back in the swing of things, it will get better. Fourth time, we dined outside in their cute patio. The food was disappointing. I’ve included pics of our fourth meal below. The only dish that was good was their wedge salad. My husband ordered the ribs and they were dry and tough. He didn’t even finish his meal and ate the French fries, which were good. He got a $20 plate of fries is what it amounted to. I’ve ordered the Frutti de mar three times and it’s been different each time. Sometimes the sauce is thick and more flavorful, other times it’s watery and flavorless. There is no consistency. For almost $27, I expect better.
I don’t think we’ll be returning anytime soon. We may give it another try sometime, but not in the near future. I think four visits was enough to get a good sense of their food. I’ll stick to cooking at home or going to Albuquerque if we want to dine out.
We started with a house salad with a light balsamic dressing. The soup du jour was a nice New England clam chowder.
The main courses were horseradish crusted New York steak, seared Halibut and a pasta dish with shrimp, scallops and lobster. All the sauces were top shelf.
We had a rose wine that was flavorful yet light so it didn’t interfere with the delicate flavors of the sauces.
For desert we had a bread pudding, cappuccinos finished with a desert wine.
Service was excellent, covering all the bases without interrupting our experience.
Will visit again and this time get the pasta!
The first time we went, everyone we interacted with was truly exceptional. The food was pretty great and the bread pudding was yum. I fell in love with the Georgia mule that someone else got, but wasn’t as into the margarita (which I’ve heard is to die for).
The second time was for Restaurant Week. The hostess (sister of the chef, I think) was so nice, had great insight and was wonderful to interact with. We didn’t see our waitress for a pretty long time, which we didn’t mind too much given how busy it was…but when she finally arrived, she was rude and fairly dismissive. She brought out soup without a spoon, and it took a few minutes before we could get her attention to ask for one. We left quickly instead of staying to savor the food because her demeanor was distracting away from the food.
I did thoroughly enjoy the shrimp and grits though! Excellent cajun flavor although I wouldn’t have minded a little heat. The grits were creamy and well prepared.
The last time I went I chose the fish of the day and it was amazing – I would definitely recommend giving dinner a try!
