Our favorite place to stop in Julian for what feels like a home cooked meal. I always like to try something new when I come because all the food is truly delicious. Some of our favorites are the meatloaf, bbq chicken salad, chicken tortilla soup and chicken pot pie but you really can’t go wrong. It gets busy during the holidays but it’s absolutely worth the wait. This year we did their thanksgiving menu and everything was fantastic. This place is a true gem, the service is always wonderful too.

Popped into this place for some pie and coffee after dinner as it was one of the only places still open. Waited about 20 minutes for a table but it was worth it. Had a piece of apple-boysenberry and a slice of their seasonal apple-pumpkin both with a crumble top and huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. So good!! Some of the best pie I’ve had. Will definitely be back.

We had a nice breakfast here during our visit to Julian. The portions were generous, the service was friendly and welcoming, and overall the experience was solid.
The food and coffee were good, though not particularly outstanding — but definitely satisfying and well-prepared. What really stood out was the value: prices were reasonable for such a touristic area, which is always appreciated.
All in all, a reliable breakfast spot with good portions, friendly staff, and fair pricing. We would absolutely come back.

Amazing little restaurant! Definitely try it out when in Julian. It can get crowded during busy days, which has slowed down the service, so I recommend putting your name up in advance!

The food was spectacular! Juicy cheeseburger with the PERFECT crispy fries, and AMAZING homemade ranch for dipping!

I have nothing bad to say other than the small atmosphere, but that’s not a big problem.

Overall: highly recommend

We had a great time at Julian Cafe & Bakery and were lucky enough to arrive before there was a line. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal. We enjoyed both tea and coffee, which were excellent, and the food really stood out. The corned beef pie was flavorful and comforting, and the omelette was fresh and well made. Overall, a lovely spot with great food and a warm vibe. Definitely worth a visit when in Julian.

Julian is so popular that parking is just crazy on the weekends. This said, the café is probably the most popular and best place to eat downtown, so wait times for lunch can get to be well over one hour. Staff will let you know about this when they are taking your information for your reservation (you reserve your seat when you arrive when there are wait times, kind of like waiting in line). I was told 45 minutes to wait for a table for 2 at 2 pm on a Sunday (lunch rush). When I came back there was a misunderstanding and a second person told me it would be 30 more minutes. I came back a third time and thankfully found the person who I spoke to originally and she managed to seat us! I didn’t catch her name but I’m so grateful!
We were served drinks within minutes of being seated and it took about 15 minutes for our food to be prepared and it was worth every minute of the wait.
There are some places where you specifically order the one thing because it’s their specialty and the one good thing they sell, but here I try to order something new each time I come because the food is amazing and I want to experience it all!
I ordered the chicken breast and it was amazing. It was juicy and the crust was crunchy and it melts in your mouth. The gravy has a wonderful blend of spices. They had an option of fries or mashed potatoes. I had mashed potatoes the last time, so I asked for the fries this time. They were crunchy but not hard, not salty at all, and not greasy. The coleslaw is fresh and light, not heavy or greasy, and not overly sweet. I ordered a double shot latte. It was perfect. I didn’t want something sweet. But if you like something sweet, you can add flavoring.
We didn’t order desserts, because we were satisfied with our food, but we have taken whole pies home before and they are delicious.
If you are in Julian, this is the place to go. It’s definitely worth the wait.

I ordered the medium prime rib, but unfortunately the one I received was a bit overcooked. The flavor was still good, but it wasn’t cooked to the temperature I expected. Overall, it was an okay experience, but I was a little disappointed this time.

Delicious time at Julian Cafe and Bakery! The hostess was incredibly welcoming, and our waitress was excellent—friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. A bit of a wait but you can walk around the town while you wait for your name to be called. Parking wasn’t difficult either. The food was delicious, and of course, the apple and boysenberry pies were absolutely amazing. Even without ice cream, they were perfect—rich, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for in a classic pie. Prices were super reasonable. Beyond the food, the charm of Julian itself makes the experience even better. Check out the gold mines as well that are like a 7 minutes walk from there! Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

We’ve been many times for lunch, but it was out first breakfast. We split the amazing Cinnamon Roll French Toast, scrambled eggs & sausage. It was SO good. Highly recommend.
