Wonderful and reasonably affordable food. Good carne asada, amazing pozole, and the best lengua I’ve ever had (I didn’t even like lengua before I tried theirs!). I can’t say I was expecting top tier Mexican food in Juneau but I will definitely be back! Paid $60 for 2 entrees, a drink, and a bowl of pozole. Great prices. Just to note: they do not have a liquor license so no beer, wine, margaritas etc. I thought I was gonna miss having a Modelo with my tacos but the food was too good to notice!

I have traveled to over 93 countries and finding solid Mexican food outside the continental United States can be nearly impossible. Saw this place and gave it a try and glad I did! Halibut Enchiladas was a unique dish to try and the fajitas were solid.

Tried this restaurant as a recommendation by a local saying their burritos were fire. I tried the Burrito al a carte Barbacoa and (3) King Salmon Tacos. The burrito was okay. The top half was almost all beans. There wasn’t much flavor in the burrito to be honest. The kind salmon tacos were very good. Again, salmon fan here. The salmon was fresh yet cooked perfectly. I’d even say they could have used less salmon.

Tucked away in the Foodland complex, the unassuming Mar Y Sol has been on my radar for sometime. TBH, I live in the valley and don’t come downtown often, especially during high tourist season. But I had a good yoga class at the nearby Alaska Club and after a brisk walk to Marine Park, I decided to treat myself. Seat yourself dining, my waiter brought water, chips, and a delectable salsa promptly. The waiter recommended the Birria Quesotacos so I ordered it. Unfortunately, this is not a dish I would recommend. It is basically stew meat and cheese in a taco shell that is then fried, with a side of the beef jus. Greasy, with not a lot of nuance of flavor, I ate one of the three tacos and wished I had tried something else. Luckily, a friend came through the doors and he was glad to take care of my leftovers while I sampled another dish. Something fresher, I asked the waiter, and this time he suggested a vegetable quesadilla. The quesadilla was fine but again lacked the freshness I was longing for. Granted, fresh vegetables have a short shelf life in Juneau, but the lack of them in both meals was disappointing. The menu suggested asking the waitstaff for salsa samples, so I tried the pineapple habanero, hoping to punch up the quesadilla. I think they left out the habanero as it just tasted like puréed pineapple.
Darn. I might try Mar y Sol again and just stick with the house salsa.

I ordered the beef chimichanga, and it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The service was good. The gentleman was nice and courteous. The decorations were whimsical and colorful.

The food was good and the young waiter was super nice. Hostess was not friendly and I almost walked away because of her. She needs to appreciate the costumers and be more welcoming.

Ordered to go camarones al a momia (mummy shrimp) shrimp wrapped in bacon with salad and it was very delicious. The nice server even gave me some tortilla chips. They only give free tortilla chips for dine in. So, I gave him some tip. Nice place, good customer service and delicious food.

Nachos were ok. When you’re getting a meal of nachos, you hope the toppings will be a little bit more layered. Tamales were good. Would be nice if you’re going to be paying that much for a meal that they include a side of chips and salsa for carryout. Prices definitely don’t match the prices in the online menus so be aware of that. It was ok
