Stepping into Yamato Japanese Steakhouse feels like crossing an ocean without ever leaving Tennessee. The moment I entered, I was struck by the warm glow of lantern-style lighting, the polished wood accents, and the elegant simplicity of the décor — all of it balanced perfectly between modern comfort and traditional Japanese aesthetic. The attention to detail in the dining room immediately set the tone for an experience that felt far beyond a small-town setting. For a brief moment, as the aroma of grilled sesame oil and soy drifted through the air, I could’ve sworn I was in Sapporo.
The real magic, however, happens at the hibachi grill. The chefs here are both artists and entertainers — juggling knives, creating bursts of flame, and delivering each course with precision and personality. My hibachi steak and shrimp were cooked exactly as ordered: tender, lightly charred, and beautifully seasoned. The vegetables kept their crispness, the fried rice had just the right touch of soy and garlic, and every bite felt freshly made, not rushed. Even the miso soup and house salad carried that authentic balance of comfort and clarity that defines good Japanese cuisine.
What makes Yamato stand out even more is its value. The portions are generous, the ingredients taste fresh, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for such quality. Whether you’re celebrating a special night or just craving authentic hibachi without the Nashville drive, Yamato delivers the perfect balance of atmosphere, authenticity, and affordability.
Tullahoma may be a long way from Sapporo, but for one evening at Yamato, it’s easy to forget. This is a gem worth revisiting — a place where fire, flavor, and hospitality come together to create something truly memorable.

Wow… absolutely delicious and evennfor a lunch the portions were filling. I enjoyed the squid steak, the squid salad, and the hibachi steak. It’s absolutely amazing. The service was outstanding and super friendly. I really like the location as well. Good vibes. Well decorated without going overboard. Nice seating as well. You aren’t on top of one another. I got to try several other dishes, and everything was wonderful. I highly recommend this place.

Service, atmosphere and food were all awesome! Very friendly ladies serving tables and the owner as well. I had the beef yakisoba and I thought the noodles were more like Chinese noodles. I’ve tried Yamato in Manchester, Winchester and Fayetteville as well and my favorite noodles are the ones in Winchester. But everything else about this location is perfect! I would love more carrots in this dish and the veggies could have been cooked more, but that’s personal preference. My daughter loves the famine drinks and the California roll. The yumyum sauce is delicious as well. Thank you so much!

Service was just a little slow coming in due to a takeout order being placed but the server was quick and attentive. The Yamato roll came out quick and was great. The soy sauce tasted a little funny but it may just be the type they prefer at the restaurant. Overall great experience.

My boyfriend and I just moved to Tullahoma and decided to try this place since we love sushi. Needless to say, it was AMAZING! We walked in and were immediately greeted, our waitress was quick for our drink order and food order, the food didn’t take long at all, and it was very good! His plate was also a cool light display! The only complaint we had was that our drinks both tasted only of salt and sour mix. While we were waiting for our food, a nice couple sat down next to us and they had also just moved here so it was a nice conversation. The whole place filled up really quick and soon every table was filled! The itame was also careful with his plating, which was nice to see firsthand over the counter. The manager and/or owner came by to ask how everything was and we said it was great. We will definitely be back!

The establishment was well decorated. The atmosphere was nice quiet. The waitress was very nice and sweet, but did not keep up with our drinks. My husband actually ran out and had to drink some of my drink. I got the hibachi chicken and some of my chicken tasted not right?Maybe it was about to go bad.So I didn’t eat most of my chicken. The sushi was good and I like the improved salad and soup. Overall, I would go back again.Nice place.

Rebecca our server was very nice. Give her a 5 star service. I love their sweet potato tempura. And I ordered red snapper hibachi and my husband got shrimp tempura. Food was hot, crispy and tastes just right. This was our 3rd visit. Looking forward for more.
They also have a sushi bar, and a bar where you can order drinks and all the sushi you want.

Sushi and only the sushi was good. Steak was undercooked after multiple send backs. Chicken and rice had zero taste. Food was not cooked with any seasoning. Do not eat there.
