Actually quite impressed! They truly delivered on all three dishes: the lamb, pork, and green beans. Definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants I’ve been to in Chicago (dare I say best??) The pork was excellent: spicy, the right balance of rich and tender, and the green beans were a classic with great flavor as well. The fact that we polished off all three dishes as two people is a testament to the quality of the food here! Will definitely be coming back – even the visual presentation of the food was quite nice.

The cumin lamb, fried chili fish, green beans, and zhong’s dumplings are our favorites, but this is another place where everything we’ve ever had here (which is a lot) is great. Excellent for take out food but I’d also recommend eating here as the noodle and any of the fried dishes are better in person. Also a very kid friendly place.

Very solid Chinese with an extensive menu. Eating in was fairly quiet, dishes were well plated and came fairly quickly.

Spices were great, a good blend without going overboard though it may be a bit much if you have low spice tolerances.

This location is also BYOB as well.

Outstanding Sichuan Without the Chinatown Trip
Chengdu Impression in Wicker Park has become our go-to spot for authentic Sichuan cuisine when we don’t want to make the trek to Chinatown. The menu is extensive, the quality is consistently on point, and everything always tastes fresh.

Here are some of our favorite dishes that keep us coming back:

The Mouthwatering Chicken lives up to its name – incredibly tender and bursting with that signature Sichuan numbing heat.

The Bean Curd with Peanut is a wonderfully overlooked dish that perfectly embodies the balanced interplay of flavor and heat that makes Sichuan cuisine so unique.

They serve excellent Xiao Long Bao – finally, great soup dumplings without going to Chinatown! Their Beef Noodle Soup features tender beef shank and house-made noodles that create pure comfort in a bowl.

The Chengdu Style Dry Chili Chicken is fantastic, but the real standout has to be their Boiled Fish Sichuan Style – a personal favorite that I believe is one of the best versions in the city, if not THE best! The Cumin Lamb is superb, and their Twice-Cooked Pork is absolutely stellar.

Beyond the main dishes, they offer full dim sum options that are best enjoyed when dining in. The menu is incredibly extensive – there’s always something new to discover, which is exactly why we keep coming back.

Can’t recommend Chengdu Impression highly enough for anyone craving authentic Sichuan flavors with the convenience of a Wicker Park location.

HOSPITALIZED FOR 10 DAYS WITH FOOD POISONING FROM HERE!!!
I ordered their pork dumplings and fried rice. It was the only thing I ate that day so I Know it was from here.

I called the restaurant after my hospital stay and told them about my situation. Was told that it happened too long ago for them to refund me. They did not care at all. Great!

Reviewing 3 years after my experience because I keep seeing this place recommended. I feel like people should be aware. I thought I had already reviewed, but I guess I didn’t.

Literally the worst experience ever.

Decent but not impressive. I think the flavor is twisted for Americans (much sweeter less spicy)

Chengdu Impression in Wicker Park is a standout for authentic Sichuan cuisine! From the moment you step in, the atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming. The dishes are packed with bold flavors and the perfect balance of spice and depth. Highlights include their mouthwatering spicy hot pot, dim sum, tender mapo tofu, and the addictive dan dan noodles along with dry chengdu chili chicken. The spice level can be adjusted to your preference, but even the mild options deliver incredible flavor. Service is friendly and efficient, and the food arrives fresh and fast. If you’re craving true Sichuan flavors in Chicago, this place is a must-visit! Highly recommended!

We feasted like kings and queens at Chengdu Impression. Came on a Friday night and the restaurant was very busy, but we waited for less than 10 minutes to get a table. Not only was the service super fast, (we got almost all of our dishes within 10 minutes of ordering them) and the waitstaff very friendly and helpful, but the food was also really good. The mapo tofu lives rent free in my mind, we were fighting for who got to eat those leftovers the next day lol. I also got to try rabbit for the first time, which is something I haven’t seen in most Chinese restaurants. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you want authentic Sichuan food!

Really excited to see more authentic Chinese flavors reach wicker park! If you are a fan of heat/spice, this entire menu will be appetizing to you. We ordered the kungpao chicken the pork/bean curd. The interior decor is beautiful and inviting.

After revisiting this place numerous times, they have only gotten better and improved their services. It is now the best Chinese place to take your family to within walking distance of wicker park and Ukrainian village.

Good food, authentic cooking styles combining Sichuan and Hunan cooking. Love the specialty dishes like 老妈蹄花, very tender and cooked braised and then stewed.
