Come here with an empty stomach and you will not be disappointed! We had the pleasure of enjoying the Friday special. It had shrimp Alfredo, corn macaque choux, fried catfish, and a buttermilk biscuit. It also included a bowl of gumbo and we could choose between seafood or chicken and sausage gumbo. We got a bowl of each. Then we had bread pudding and peach cobbler. You’ll be glad to enjoy the excellent service and delicious food that really gives people a taste of local culture and history.

What a wonderful dining experience! This restaurant really brings out the local history and culture on a plate. We had the Friday special and it’s hard to believe we ate it all! It included shrimp Alfredo, corn macaque choux, fried catfish, and a biscuit. There was also a small bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo or shrimp gumbo so we tried both. We finished with bread pudding and peach cobbler for dessert. All of this for $15.95 a person? You can’t beat it!

Popped in for lunch after visiting the village. Had the red beans and rice, jambalaya and baked potato with crayfish between the 2 of us. Some of the best Cajan cuisine we’ve had so far on our trip and we’ll recommended.

We ate here before exploring Vermillionville historic village. The gumbo was incredible. Sooooo good. The jambalaya was pretty good too. Just wish I had had a cup of milk to go with them (a little spicy, not too much though).

We got their plate lunch special, fried pork chop that day, which was just okay. But it came with a cup of gumbo and dessert (yummy bread pudding), so all good.

We later got some gumbo in New Orleans and it was very disappointing compared to this gumbo here in Vermillionville.

Plus our server was just the kindest gentleman and spoiled our kids haha 🙂

We recently visited Vermilionville Restaurant | La Cuisine de Maman on our way home to Texas, hoping for an authentic Cajun-Creole experience after we had an amazing meal the day before in Baton Rouge. Unfortunately, our visit was disappointing. We waited an hour for our food, and to make matters worse, we saw other guests who arrived after us eating and finishing their meals before we were even served. When we asked about the delay, the waitress mentioned that we “caught them by surprise” with our jambalaya order, even though it was on the menu. She said they were more prepared for other orders, which didn’t make sense, especially since the restaurant claims to offer a homey, welcoming experience.

What was more frustrating was that there was no communication about the delay until we asked. It would have been appreciated if they had at least offered to refill our drinks or just something to make up for the wait.

As for the food, my husband ordered the jambalaya, and I had the half-and-half fried catfish and shrimp, with crawfish étouffée. While the food was decent, it didn’t live up to the level of excitement we were hoping for after our Baton Rouge meal. Overall, the service felt unprofessional, and the lack of communication really impacted our experience. We were hoping for a warm, welcoming vibe, but unfortunately, we didn’t feel that. Wouldn’t be rushing back anytime soon.

We are locals and did not know about this cafe. Stopped in today with friends (Sun) for lunch buffet.

The only waitress took our drink order and asked if we wanted Gumbo. Our Gumbo came out first which was DELICIOUS. Problem was we had no napkins and no drinks.

Also the condiments in our table caddy were nasty.
Sticky, caked , no salt, pepper or yellow sweetener. And only Tabasco hot sauce.

The Buffet was well seasoned and also good. We did find that the gift shop is one of the best in the area for guest that come from out of town.

We stopped in for a light lunch. The gumbo was highly recommended by Mike. So we got a cup of the gumbo and the crawfish etouffee with a side of potato salad.

Everything was very good. Except the etouffee was more than very good. It was phenomenal! My husband and I both agree that it’s the best that we’ve had. I really wish I had that recipe!

When we went, they weren’t extremely busy, but there were quite a few people and I think only one waitress. She was definitely busy! They must have just been short staffed that day.

Unfortunately, this was the one place that I forgot to take pics, but highly recommend!
