We had really high hopes about the food based on all the reviews that we had seen- but the food was disappointing- especially the meat and fish. The spreads and veggies were really good especially rhe carrot, tzatziki and eggplant moussaka. The meats were alright- the beef ghoulash was probably the best.
The desserts were ok too. Baklava was a savior in all this. Service and ambience are both great. Overall didn’t feel worth the price- more quantity over quality

I was so excited when I heard of this place, and the reality outlived even my high expectations. We did the $32.99 all you can eat lunch special, and tried as much as we could- sadly couldn’t fit everything in our stomachs, but would love to come back to try the rest. Everything was made with care, presented beautifully, and tasted spectacular. Special recognition for the lamb lasagna, all the dips (especially feta), the Balkan salad, and the fries. Our waiter was Melvin and he was the best, so warm and welcoming. Loved the ambience of the restaurant too. Last great thing to note was their allergen menu- a very clear lay out of all the allergens to note in any of their menu options, showing whether certain things could be modified to be allergen free. Would come back in a heartbeat.

I am sooo impressed! We came here due to my hubby randomly looking for good restaurants in DC…. Best decision ever, contemplating on celebrating our anniversary here this year. Melvin, our server, was top notch! We had no idea what to order and asked him to just pick for us… Everything was absolutely amazing!!! A must pick for anyone looking to have great food with amazing customer service!

Fun spot and great service with so much space! We were able to get in on a Friday night with no reservation. There are 3 floors, with a different vibe on each floor. No elevator, but there’s still an accessible entrance with a ramp. There’s an all you can eat experience for $50 – really good deal. We used inKind to pay, so got a deal with that too – use my referral and you will too: HO75U4TN
We ended up doing the a la cart menu but I’d go back to try the unlimited another time!

Second time visiting Ambar. Last time we visited Shaw. We loved the small plates experience last time around, however this time around the experience was mildly disappointing. Both the kebabs were bitter, the salmons were unseasoned. Probably the best item was the fried chicken; really loved the apple wasabi base. The cornbread and pita were also good. The spreads were average and we had a much better experience with the spreads at Shaw.
All in all, was a bit disappointed given our first experience.

Came in during Happy Hour. Reasonably priced menu with great quality, presentation, and flavor (generally acidic, if that’s what you’re into). Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearingly present at every other bite of the meal. Will definitely diner here again!
The only suggested change in serving the baklava would be to remove the powdered sugar, as it feels misplaced. Instead, a good sprinkle of mixed coarsely and finely ground pistachio over the ice cream and baklava would work well. Sometimes, keeping things simple makes the biggest difference.
Close to the Metro.

Considering we have been eating at Michelin restaurants we were pleased that this was our favorite meal of the week !!
For restaurant week at lunch it’s 35$ all you can eat
The staff is super quick to get your order and constantly offer you more food
Several dishes were great
My favorite dish was the beet salad
Fried cauliflower
Was nice to try several new dishes..
Our last dish ( one dessert per person) took a while to come out, so they gave us them to go !

The food at Ambar Capitol Hill was fantastic! The kebab was so good we ended up ordering an extra one. The cauliflower and the cheese pita were both amazing — perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The Balkan wine they recommended was also excellent. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting D.C.!

We had a wonderful experience at Ambar in Capitol Hill. The food was absolutely delicious — beautifully presented, full of flavor, and perfect for sharing. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and the overall atmosphere was vibrant yet welcoming, making it a great spot for both a special night out or a relaxed dinner.
What truly made our evening exceptional was our waiter, Melvin. He was attentive, kind, and genuinely warm, making us feel cared for from the moment we sat down. His recommendations were spot-on, his timing was perfect, and he brought such a positive energy to the table. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does, and it made a big difference in our experience.
Exceptional food, outstanding service, and a beautiful vibe — we’ll absolutely be back. Thank you, Melvin, for making lunch date so memorable!

Here’s a list of what I’ve sampled
This restaurant offers a delightful spread of dishes, including charcuterie, veal soup, tomato soup, vitamin salad, pepper and cheese croquettes, lamb lasagna, holloumi, eggplant moussaka, roasted baby carrots, and beef goulash. The shared plates and portions are perfectly sized, allowing us to sample a variety of flavors. We complemented our meal with a refreshing kiwi smash, a crisp skoplje, and a traditional rakia. Every dish was exquisite, and I eagerly anticipate returning to this culinary haven!
