Part 1: The Board Games
I know I mentioned this being in part 7, but seriously this sets this Denny’s apart from any other eating establishment in the greater northern Colorado area. I’d highly recommend playing the game featuring beavers that you place up in a tree. It is called Creature Crash, which is a little misleading because no matter hard we tried, we couldn’t actually get kore than a few beavers to fall out of the tree at a time. Would you consider that a crash? I personally would not.
Part 2: The Beavers
Now let’s analyze the so called “creatures” in the game. We assumed they were beavers at first (as I expounded upon in part 1). Upon further inspection, we realized that the game box clarifies them to be capybaras, which I’m surprised at myself for not immediately recognizing them as such. After all, I see capybaras all the time on the front range, scurrying between their holes.
Part 3: The Capybaras
Okay, upon further research, I’ve realized that capybaras are not the same thing as Prairie dogs. Which would make sense since the game features animals live in a tree. Prarie dogs do not live in trees. My bad.
Part 4: The Truth About Capybaras
Thank goodness for ChatGPT guys. It has dispelled my misconceptions about the commonly-seen capybara. It does not live in or even climb trees. It is a semi-aquatic rodent (think Michael Phelps-rat hybrid). So I guess it makes sense that I confused it with the semi-aquatic Beavers.
Part 5: Cynthia
We had heard from previous reviewers the famed tales of the excellent servers, in particular Cynthia. So when we came in, we specifically requested Cynthia. And let me tell you, she did not disappoint.
Part 6: The Wait
We had to wait 37 minutes for our food, and after our 15th round of Creature Crash, we began to get board, but would you believe it, Cynthia gave us a half cup of fresh fruit (half grapes, half strawberries) free of charge. We were able to eat 17 of the 18 pieces of fruit (see picture for the one grape that had a small spot of mold).
Part 7: The Moldy Grape
You might be thinking to yourself: why not just remove that small piece of mold and partake of that grape. Look man, I’m eating at a fancy eating establishment. You can’t be picking mold out of your grapes at the dinner table. Board games featuring beavers yes, picking at your food, absolutely not.
Part 8: The Food
The food. Oh my goodness. Crafted by dionysus himself. I got the Philly cheesesteak (without cheese).
Part 9: The Crash
After such an epic journey to a restaurant such as this, one must prepare for a dopamine crash like no other. All I could do for days was tell everyone I could about my visit to Dennys and think about when I’d be able to go back. At my therapists’ recommendation, I ordered Creature Crash and now play it once a day while meditating and focusing on the sensations I experienced that day at Denny’s.
Part 10: Setting Healthy Expectations
After posting this review, many of you reached out to me to let me know that your experience did not quite match mine. I’m sorry to hear that. The truth is that we didn’t actually request Cynthia as our waitress. We just got lucky. Sometimes you just get lucky, okay. Set your expectations accordingly.
Good customer service can really make or break a meal, and Shara definitely made ours better. If you stop by this location, I highly recommend asking for her — she’ll take great care of you!
I had the Santa Fe skillet. It was really good. Came out piping hot and had good flavor.
Buddy had the braised beef skillet. It was solid. Tasty and hot.
The maple filled donut holes were a fantastic addition.
The place was clean and warm on a cold morning. Perfect!
The price point and portion sizes were perfect. In an age where even McDonald’s is expensive this was super reasonable.
I’ll be back for more. Thanks!
