Outback Steakhouse – Great Lakes Mall, Mentor OH
This was my first — and last — Outback experience.
The bathroom set the tone: no hand dryer, very low paper towels, and urine on the floor you had to tiptoe around. At 4pm on a Saturday, that’s beyond unacceptable.
The food? One salty disaster after another. The Blooming Onion was buried under sodium. The Tasmanian Chili wasn’t spicy, just brined to death. My salad arrived with soggy lettuce and tired cherry tomatoes, nothing fresh or crisp about it.
My entrée — lobster tail and filet mignon — was shockingly small. I finished both in seconds. The microwaved butter poured out nicely… until the salt settled at the bottom, forcing me to strain it off my food. The sirloin was cooked pink as preferred, but unbelievably small and just as salty. The ribs were taken to go, worried they’d be impossible to taste under all the salt.
And the service? When I asked for extra silverware, a server looked at me like I had two heads. Worse, when I pointed out the overwhelming salt, our own server suggested I must be “sensitive to salt.” That isn’t service — that’s gaslighting.
For balance: the raspberry tea was good. But when the highlight of a $130 dinner is the iced tea, that’s not just disappointing — it’s daylight robbery. My companion joked that the salt was so extreme it burned the roof of the mouth and that they were now “preserved on the inside.”
Outback should stop blaming customers and start rethinking recipes, training, and basic standards. Until then, I’ll stick to restaurants that know how to season food — and clean their bathrooms.
PS: the espresso martini was basic.

Some of their dishes are amazing.. I really enjoy the Pecan Blue Cheese salad with a skewer of Shrimp on the Barbie. There is a Create your Own Dinner for $14.95.. I got the shrimp, the salad ,a loaf of lovely bread, and this includes another side, and a dessert. Can’t beat that!

Came here for my birthday dinner. Food was fantastic, came quickly and my steak was cooked perfectly. I didn’t get my butter for my steak which isn’t a big deal if my server had ever came to the table to check on us. I watched her stand at the bar on her phone. I didn’t have a drink my entire meal. She finally asked me if I wanted a refill when I was boxing my food to leave.

A fabulous dinner time experience with a great server. Dylan has strong people skills, was consistent and detail focused about the beverage menu and more. Enjoyed porterhouse steaks with baked potatoes, appetizer of an onion bloom and chocolate thunder from down under brownie ice cream fudge dessert. We arrived closer to 5 and the wait was fair with 30 minutes and slightly less. The quality was hot, cooked well done and medium for another in our party. Beer was smooth and crisp. Onion bloom had a peppery kick to it but was good. A very big shout out to all staff. I went when they originally opened and I was impressed by the appearance, vibe and pricing as it is now. Additionally, it is spacious for those with large parties in their group. Parking is accomodating whether close to the establishment or a brief 2 minute walk. Cleanliness and your food is made to order as you prefer. Kids menu is an option. Friendly staff that are in constant motion. Loved the Australia feel inside. Thank you for a nice Saturday out. 5/5 and will be back to try the towering chocolate cake next time.

I needed a day off from cooking dinner and a small break from life. My toddlers and I headed to Outback after getting back into town from visiting family. The staff & manager Michael were kind, attentive and caring, I felt seen as a human and cared for. The staff interacted with my kids and I was blown away by everyone’s kindness. When we left, I felt rested and not stressed like I was when I came in. And not hungry lol. Everything was delicious as always and we brought home leftovers, yummy!

On December 31, 2025, we opted for an exceptional dining experience for our final meal of the year. Our choice of Outback Steakhouse proved to be outstanding. Despite being a holiday, the restaurant was reasonably uncrowded, allowing us to secure a table promptly upon arrival. Our server, Jason, greeted us attentively and ensured our needs were met throughout the evening. Not only did he provide excellent service to our table, but his interaction with other patrons was equally impressive. Jason’s knowledge, attention to detail, and dedication to providing an exceptional dining experience were exemplary. Our meal was cooked to perfection, presented impeccably, and accompanied by refreshments that were consistently replenished. We were thoroughly impressed with Jason’s service and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking exceptional service. We guarantee our return to Outback Steakhouse and will specifically request Jason upon arrival. The entire experience was truly exceptional, rating a 10 out of 10. We extend our gratitude to Jason and the entire Outback team for a fantastic conclusion to the year 2025

Placed a curbside pick up, wait was 30 mins. Website said my order was completed, my boyfriend waits for 15 mins past that, no one brings the food out. My boyfriend then goes inside and has to talk to the manager because they hadn’t even started the order. Manager offers him cheesecake, fine. Get the food home (40 min drive) steaks are undercooked, and they didn’t give me any of the toppings for my baked potato (which is an upcharge). I had decided to give curbside a chance because the last time I went in person, (during the day, with only one other table in the dining room being used) we waited 20 mins to be seated and no one came back, ever, tried flagging staff down but they ignored us. Left after an hour. Really wish I didn’t Apple Pay, because I would’ve canceled the tip.

I really didn’t want to go here to eat because of my past experiences; however my friend and I wanted a steakhouse and Outback was the most convenient to meet at and I figured I would be open to giving it another try.
Just walking in the atmosphere was gloomy due to the staff looking like they did not want to be there. No smiles, or friendly welcome just “follow me” and sat me at the table where my friend was waiting. Our server was nice, but again, just a very bland demeanor with no smile or welcoming attitude.
Prior to going I put us on the waiting list and while doing so a pop-up said if I sign up for the diner rewards I would receive a free Blooming Onion. When I mentioned this to our server she instantly stated that the don’t have any such offer and her tone was more so that I was making it up and she wanted proof. I looked through my email but couldn’t find anything because it came up right before signing up for the rewards. My friend went on her phone and did the wait-list/rewards sign up and there it was and even after showing her she shrugged it off and stepped away. I thought maybe she left to go ask a manager but when she came back and I asked if that’s what she did, she said no, she did not ask anyone. I just dropped it after that. I wasn’t going to start an argument over an onion, but her response to the whole thing was offensive.
Now about my food… I ordered the Filet w/lobster tail and asparagus. I wish I had thought to take a picture of my plate when it arrived. There was more plate then food and it was not a big plate. The filet and lobster tail were the smallest portions I’ve ever seen and I don’t even know what to compare them to in size it was that ridiculous.. kinda like it was meant for a little kid. There were maybe 4-5 very short asparagus and they were all thinner than my straw and soggy limp. The filet was cooked perfectly like I asked, but come on for $42 including a $4 upcharge for the asparagus and just 2 bites and the lobster was gone??
One last thing that there’s zero excuse for was the bathroom. It was really gross and the sink was disgusting. There was food and who knows what else in and around the corners and that left me not feeling sanitary even after washing my hands.
Definitely won’t be back and I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. I was in the restaurant industry my whole adult life and do not typically leave negative reviews, but this one deserved it.
