There are several taco stands that lay claim to the original Baja-style fish taco, but general consensus grants Tacos Fénix the distinction of being the first. The stand sits on the corner of Espinoza and Juarez streets, with the same family still serving the street snack since it opened in 1970. A simple menu lists the limited options – fish and shrimp tacos – and the fish is fried in a special comal with an oil well, called a disca, that is fit for frying and takes up the majority of the wooden shack’s interior. The crowd here is mixed: gringos right from the cruise ship or bar, fishermen and wealthy businessmen all flock here for a taste of the real deal. Tacos Fénix is a must-visit. Arrived just before 11am on a Tuesday and there was a short line of maybe 6 people. Ordered two of each fish and shrimp tacos, overloaded with toppings and sauce. Both were fantastic but we agreed the shrimp was better of the two. Can’t wait to go back for more.

You absolutely have to make the walk! Its well worth it and you need the excercise after cruising and eating all day so do it! We live in oregon where the seafood is fresh on the coast so our hopes were very high. We were not disappointed they were easily the best fish tacos my wife and I have ever had hands down. It was so fresh and perfectly fried, the condiment bar its awesome and the sauces are out of this world. I literally put every sauce and didnt regret it one bit. The flavors of them all together are out of this world and they didnt mind us having horrible spanish. It was just over $2 a taco i beileve and we bought 3 each and we were stuffed. Seriously do yourself a flavor and visit this amazing food cart with super nice service!

Wife and I walked from the cruise port to Tacos Fenix in about 15 min. The fish and shrimp tacos were very fresh and tasty. The shrimp tacos were special though and went back for more. 5 tacos and a can of coke were about $14 US.

Quality tacos worth the walk from the cruise port! Simple food done exceptionally well! We tried both the shrimp and the fish tacos, could not pick a winner! The toppings were fresh, the salsas were on point. I would literally come back just for these tacos! Employees were super friendly at this local joint!

Best fish tacos in Baja California, I highly recommend this place. They have a special to go. The service was fast and the people were so nice. There is limited seating don’t expect a restaurant just standing and enjoying the tacos is ok. You get to put all the toppings your self.
