If you’re in Malaga and want a proper, high-quality local food experience then this has to be top of your list. We went to several excellent locations during our stay but this was our favourite.

Traditional restaurant with delicious dishes perfected over decades by the owner/founder who we even managed to see when we visited on a Friday evening.

Ask your hotel to book a table as you can queue but if you do you only get the option to sit at a few of the available bar seats/tables.

No-nonsense but friendly service from experienced waiters and excellent value for the quality of food.

A must-visit!

Mesón Mariano is a gem in Málaga! Cozy and authentic, it serves traditional Andalusian dishes with seasonal highlights like their famous artichokes. No reservations needed, but come early as it fills up quickly. The service is warm, the price is very good for the quality, and it’s a spot loved by both locals and visitors. If you want an authentic Málaga dining experience in a welcoming setting, this place should be at the top of your list! It’s very good that we ate here for 2 consecutive nights ❤️

A truly authentic Spanish restaurant. Everything we had was delicious and delivered in malagueño style. This place is a slice of real Andalucia in the Centro of Málaga. Highly recommended

My favourite place in Malaga for authentic Spanish food! Every dish we ordered was very good. This place gets extremely busy and loud so don’t expect a romantic atmosphere. You also have to queue outside if you haven’t booked a table in a separate seating area. The menu is similar but not the same when booking in advance – you can’t order tapas but they give you a restaurant menu.

Pinnacle of Spanish tapas, if you’re looking for a local experience for food, drink, atmosphere I don’t think you can find a better example. Every single dish was extremely good and well portioned for sharing. The waiter we had was great and very nice!

Would and will come back here!

Really nice spot. Hard to reserve, always people waiting outside. Highly recomend artichokes of any kind; but the must get is the chivo (baby goat). Thank me later.

Come here if you want to have a delicious local meal, complex in taste, but easy on your wallet in a cozy, family-like environment. This restaurant has two seating areas, one for tapas for walk-ins and another one for reservations. You cannot get tapas in the reservations space. Grilled artichoke, cold, tomato soup, fried cod with garlic are a must to try. Kids are welcome, and everyone is welcome here.

Excellent food, friendly staff, prompt service – a historic place in the heart of the centro.
A number of dishes with Artichokes which was a little new for us, loved it. Would highly recommend.
When we left there was a decent long queue building up outside.

What a wonderful find this was. The place was packed. The waiter delivered a basket of bread and a plate of olives right after we arrived. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We were a party of three so we ordered artichokes, half orders each, both fried and grilled, a half order of boquerones and a half order of aubergines with honey and a good bottle of Rioja. What an enjoyable meal and experience. We will definitely return.
