Update: plastic fork they gave broke and couldnt even eat half the steak due to pure gristle
It was a little loud, but not overly so, about what you’d expect for a busy restaurant. Just made it a little hard to hear my coworker every once in a while.
Food was great, service was awesome, definitely coming back soon!
Food Quality and variety as you can expect in anyone. Service was exceptional. Food Presentation was as expected, clean dining experience. The interior is Generously distributed throughout the restaurants in the wall ceiling of a cattle Texas environment, including the fireplace.
I recently placed a to-go order from Saltgrass Steakhouse in San Antonio, and overall, the food was excellent, but the service could use some polishing—especially when it comes to the takeout experience.
To start, I called to place my order, and no one answered the first time. I called again, and someone picked up quickly, which was fine. I ordered the 12 oz ribeye steak with loaded mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries, an additional side of a sweet potato (yes, I really like sweet potatoes), and tortilla soup.
When I arrived, I wasn’t sure where to go for pickup. I asked the young guy at the front, and he looked confused, like maybe they don’t get many takeout orders. He told me to head to the back near the bar. Once back there, there wasn’t really a clear area to stand for pickup—it felt like I was awkwardly in the way of diners and bar guests, which made the experience a little uncomfortable.
I eventually asked a bartender if my order was ready, and he checked—turned out it still needed about 10 more minutes, which I didn’t mind. When my food was finally ready, a young woman handed it to me and asked if I had paid. I said no, and she seemed flustered and nervously said, “OK, don’t go anywhere,” which was a little odd. Of course, I wasn’t going to leave without paying, but it just felt like the takeout process lacked a clear system and training.
That said, the food itself was fantastic. The ribeye was juicy, tender, and had a great balance of fat and flavor. The loaded mashed potatoes were rich and creamy, and the cinnamon butter that came with the sweet potato was next-level good—seriously, I’d come back just for that. The tortilla soup was flavorful too, and a nice touch.
One small note: if you order online, it only gives you the option of potato soup. But if you call in, they’ll offer you either potato or tortilla soup. That inconsistency was a bit strange, and it’d be nice if the online system gave all the options.
Overall, I’ll definitely be back because the food is worth it. I just hope they improve the to-go process—it felt a bit like an afterthought, which took away from what was otherwise a great meal.
