Social Profile:

For over almost forty years we have been making everything from scratch including our herb bread, cornbread and all our salad dressings. When Food Network Canada was filming, “You Gotta Eat Here” we made our Southwestern Meatloaf, Belgian Waffles with our own cream cheese syrup and our best seller, Eggs Benedict with an authentic real butter hollandaise sauce and we had a blast doing it.

Canadian comfort fare including housemade breads & pies & creative breakfast in a relaxed space.

We had breakfast at John’s Place today. Wow, what a fantastic experience! The place is cozy and quirky, the staff are fun, experienced, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. The food was delicious, hot and fast. We were stuffed, but the Pecan pie looked amazing, so they boxed some up for us to take away – even gave us a cloth bag to carry it in. That’s it – we’re not going to bother looking for new places to have breakfast, we’ve found the one – the only one from now on.

The decor was retro & pretty cool. Quite a wait to get in but food was really good. Will try the meatloaf again, not sure about the gravy but the mix went together. Will recommend paying a visit.

My friend and I had breakfast here the other day. We were seated by the window which was much appreciated. I love street watching! It was also nice and warm by the window. Typically, a window seat tends to be cold. I had bacon and a gluten free muffin and my friend had bacon and eggs w fried tomatoes. We both enjoyed our meals. The gluten free muffin was quite yummy! The coffee wasn’t so great, but I am a coffee snob! I like a good dark roast and this coffee tasted very much like a medium bland roast. Not a problem for most people I am sure, but I won’t have coffee next time I come back. I love the old photos and the very laid back local vibe. Lots of room for busy times. Great service! The waiters were on the ball! Thanks John’s place!!

John’s Place Restaurant was perfect for breakfast! Everything was absolutely delicious.

The Eggs Benedict were very good and the Lavender London Fog was such a treat. The Bat Out of Hell Meatloaf & Eggs was excellent as well — hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you want in a comfort-breakfast. The gravy was like a thick Hunter’s gravy- however the plate could have used a bit more for dipping the fries.

One small note: when I asked about potato pancakes, I thought they were being offered to me as a side substitution for the fries, but I was charged $12 for four small ones, making my breakfast plate $31 plus tax. It was a misunderstanding on my part, but something to be aware of when ordering add-ons. I will not make that mistake again.

That said, I will absolutely go back. Great food, friendly, amazing service, decent portions, and a such a cozy breakfast spot worth visiting!

What a fantastic find!
This place truly captures the essence of a great Canadian breakfast spot. Each dish we tried was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. From the perfectly poached eggs and savory breakfast hash (Image 1) to the delightful wraps and crispy home fries (Image 2), everything was cooked to perfection. And for those with a heartier appetite, the full breakfast platter (Image 3) offers a wonderful variety, including classic Canadian bacon. The service was warm and friendly, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience. If you’re in Victoria looking for a top-notch breakfast or brunch, you’ve got to check this place out – eh!

John’s Place is a breakfast lover’s heaven. Their pancakes are absolutely out of this world, and the Benedicts are a must-try. The service is great, and the food tastes even better. You never get bored waiting because the walls are covered in endless, fun photos to look at. Truly an amazing place!

Came here for brunch with some friends. We didn’t recieve our food and after an hour we asked about it, they had a mix up in the kitchen and forgot but put an instant rush on it. Then they brought us the wrong meals, we at this point just found it funny. The waitress was very humorous and apologized deeply. She played along with our humor and made us all laugh multiple time though our visit. Shortly later the manager came out to apologize, pay for our meal and hand each of us a gift card for our next visit. They went above and beyond in making the poor situation right. It’s truly about how you react in to what the staff with do to make it right. As 4 young people, we had all dealt with situations like this so can be quite patient and play it off with some laughs. Stuff like this is bound to happen sometimes and thank you for making it right, we even left a cash tip for our gratitude. Thank you and happy long weekend!!❤️

Went here for breakfast and ate the tiger prawns frittata with fresh fruit and an English muffin on the side. Steve was an awesome server, and really encouraged me when I asked for glasses of milk to drink along with my breakfast Also got to try the eggs Benedict with home fries and that was good too!

You want some fluffy tasty pancakes the actual size of hubcaps (not exaggerating) this is your place – I’m
Not a fan of pancakes normally but I couldn’t stop eating off my wife’s order – you can taste the egg in the mixture with a very nice mild sweet note on the back end of the bite – now how could these be any better ? Cream cheese syrup !!! Holy ********* that stuff is amazing !! Ramps up the pancakes to next level- the order of home fries was at least 3lbs – again not joking – crispy seasoned perfectly – eggs cooked as ordered – I would bet they are farm fresh by the deep orange color of the yolk – customer service was exceptional everyone in there is hustling – saw the main lady give her regulars hugs and asked how they were – very attentive –
Plus the owner is a serious Detroit Tigers and sports team fan !
This was the best breakfast we have eaten at a restaurant – huge portions, reasonable prices this place is a true gem ! Keep it up John and staff!!! —highly recommended
