For a restaurant that only serves a prix fixe menu, I was disappointed that the food wasn’t as tasty. My smoked salmon appetizer didn’t have any smoke flavoring, so it tasted just like any lox and the pasta was over cooked and drenched in cream sauce. That said, the lamb in puff pastry and the duck entrees were both excellent. Service was attentive.

I really wanted to love this place, especially since it came highly recommended. The host was nowhere to be found and we weren’t seated for a good 10 minutes. My husband and I both ordered the prix fixe menu. The fish chowder was fine, the salads were underwhelming, and while my husband’s cod was good, my rack of lamb was unfortunately flavorless. The cocktails missed the mark, and our server wasn’t very warm or welcoming. Overall, the atmosphere felt a bit drab, and the experience didn’t live up to the hype. Especially disappointing given we spent nearly $300 on the meal.

I’m writing this review because I’m very concerned that I was almost scammed. This wasn’t apparent to me until later in the evening when our waitress brought our check, but I want to begin before then. I ordered from the prefix menu ($84) and ordered the filet mignon after asking if the steak was an option on the menu. When that entree arrived I was certain it was Short rib and not filet mignon, albeit tasty, but not the steak I ordered. I did not complain as it was late in the night and I was having an anniversary with my girlfriend. We ordered profiteroles as dessert (delicious.) once our check arrived there were two desserts that neither of us ordered on it. As a server myself I have no idea how our waitress “accidentally” added two desserts to our tab, but also there was a $10 up charge for the filet mignon (which wasn’t even a filet!) that I was never made aware of. I spent $400 on this meal including our bottle of wine and tip. I had to write this review because in the moment I wasn’t able to speak up, but I truly do feel that either our waitress was trying to take advantage of us or not being clear on what was offered on the menu, which is fraudulent in its own way. I would be careful going into this place and ordering such expensive entree’s and wine, without being sure of exactly what you’re ordering before hand.

The service and atmosphere couldn’t have been better. Our waitress was wonderful and inside the restaurant was very cozy. The phone number on their website doesn’t work, but the Google number is correct. But we were able to make reservations despite being last minute because we kept calling the number on their website. Anyhow, Our food was very good… we both took advantage of the fixed menu. I had prime rib, salad with bleu and ramp pasta. My companion had prime rib, salad with bleu cheese and poached pears with fried goat cheese with a wine reduction. First off our prime ribs were drastically different. Mine was cut much thicker where my husband’s was A LOT thinner. I ordered mine cooked to medium he ordered medium rare. I would say they were both on the rarer side. The horseradish sauce and auju both fabulous. Rib was a little too fatty, but made the dog happy! Lol. Salads were both very good, fresh and ample cheesed. Pasta was good but not hugely ramp flavored. All this said the goat cheese and poached pear with wine sauce was AMAZING (see pics) The cheese was perfectly cooked with a light crispy outside. The pears and sauce perfectly complimented the cheese. If its on the menu, don’t miss this wonderful appetizer. Also ordered a maple berry mule (it was not in the traditional copper). The drink was delish! Recommend!

I went to this place to celebrate my birthday because everyone told me it was the best place. I really loved their beet tartare. It was delicious. Main course was ok, cause I was super hungry. Service was ok, but my server for sure was not interested in me cause I was alone and not drinking for example she put bread on top of the used teabag into the dirty plate, btw look at the size of the bread, huge piece)) I put it into the clean plate for pic))
I didn’t get why I have to pay alcohol tax if I didn’t drink, but it’s ok. When I asked for the check, even though I didn’t want to eat desert she bring me a birthday scoop. It was very nice of her. So in conclusion: it was ok

Old place with a history, in the beautiful town of Woodstock Vermont. Pleasant service. We did not do the price fix but went with just an entree each. The food was just not good. I had the boneless rack of lamb.$63.00. It was, I hate to say this, terrible. Sorry. My wife had the special grey sole, meh. It came with a flavorless mound of white rice.

Food
We came here the night before Valentine’s Day and they had a $80 prefixed menu. The food was mediocre at best. So were the drinks. We had the veil ravioli and cheese board for starters. The veil ravioli was not bad, but I wish they were smaller, so it would be at least easier to scoop it up. The cheese board was very good. Next was salad, which was worse than a homemade salad. For entrees, we had ribeye and rack of lamb. The ribeye was at least flavourful, but the rack of lamb had the lamb smell, which threw me off. I would say the smashed potato and the squash was the highlight of my entree. Lastly the dessert. The cream brûlée was okay, and thankfully the chocolate ice cream was very good.

Everything else
They borrowed the gallery shop next door to extend their dining space during COVID, which was an interesting experience. The service was really nice and our waitress was friendly and attentive. I would have given a five star to the service, but unfortunately the food was not worth $80 per person.

This is one of the best fine dining restaurants we have been to. Our server Clemens was superb and a true professional–so attentive and efficient. Our appetizer, salad and entrees were perfectly spaced. He filled our water glasses without being asked, and filled our wine glasses just as we needed more wine.

The food was fresh, delicious and expertly prepared. My duck was the best I’ve ever had and my wife’s halibut was amazing. The pear ginger sorbet for dessert had the same texture as a pear.

The ambience in the restaurant is nice, and it’s perfect for a romantic dinner. Definitely will return the next time we vacation in the area.

After many wonderful dinners here, I had my rehearsal dinner here and it was perfection. Liz and team made the night run so smoothly and the food was excellent. Rustic and charming.
