We ordered the bread with butter and caviar, meatballs with ricotta, two pizzas including the East Coast Margherita and the Santo, two non alcoholic beverages, panna cotta for dessert, and even took home a sourdough loaf. Everything was delicious and well prepared, with the Santo being our favorite pizza.
The attention to detail really stood out. Plates were replaced between courses, crumbs were cleared from the table, and our leftovers were even stored in the back until we were ready to leave, with a token given to redeem them. You do not often see that level of service at a pizzeria.
For transparency, our total came to $151 for two adults before tip. It is definitely a splurge, but completely worth it for the quality, service, and overall experience. Highly recommend!
Let’s start with the positives: the pizza seasoning was actually on point. The Margherita and mushroom pizzas had rich, fragrant cheese, and the tomato sauce had a nice sweet-tart balance. You could taste that the ingredients were fresh.
But the downsides were very obvious. The crust was noticeably burnt. The first few slices were okay, but the more we ate, the more it felt like chewing charcoal. It completely ruined the overall texture, and my throat tasted smoky afterward.
The grapefruit cocktail had zero grapefruit flavor — it mostly tasted like cheap lychee syrup. I took one sip and couldn’t finish it.
The most frustrating part was the seating. Maybe they were too busy, but it felt like they took over the neighboring café space without renovating it. It didn’t match the main dining room at all. The lighting wasn’t harsh, just very plain and flat, and the whole area felt unfinished and lacking atmosphere. It really dragged down the experience.
The meatball appetizer was just average — nothing special. My friend said it tasted like heated dumpling filling.
Overall, the pizza seasoning was decent, but the burnt crust, odd seating setup, and disappointing cocktail made the experience underwhelming.
Cavolini Pizza: Fresh mozzarella, Brussels sprouts, shaved onions, anchovies, parmigiano, and garnished with half a lemon’s juice. This is a niche, even unassuming, option on the menu, but the ingredients alone are intriguing and suit my taste perfectly. The pizza was baked to order and eaten fresh; the heat and smoky aroma were satisfying. The crust was thin, yet still achieved a perfect balance of crispy crust and soft, chewy interior. A thin layer of cheese provided just the right amount of creaminess; the Brussels sprouts offered a subtle yet rich flavor, while the salty umami of the marinated anchovies occasionally shined and, accompanied by a very subtle hint of brinyness – seafood lovers will appreciate it. A squeeze of lemon juice brought a refreshing twist to the pizza, making it a perfect accompaniment to seafood. However, a touch of lemon was recommended; otherwise, the acidity will overwhelm all the layers of flavor.
Each pie was full of flavor and was happy we had enough folks to try so many. Every one was amazing and I could easily have had any on its own. The Rutgers hazelnut was not what I expected at all, in a good way, not sweet but balanced taste perfectly. I understand why this pizza is so highly rated and acclaimed.
Desserts were equally impressive although I enjoyed the tiramisu more than the olive cake. Overall a great experience and I look forward to returning.
To start, we got the butter tasting—the first two butters were our fav; the third was a bit too funky for two of us, but my one friend said he liked it. The sourdough and baguette were really good, but a bit chewier than I would’ve preferred. Still very good though; and they were available for purchase so you could take a loaf home.
For mains, one of my friends got the yellow margherita, which he said was better than the tomato pie he got the first time. My other friend got the calabrese, which he said he loved—I had a slice of it, and for me, it was the best bite of the night. So ridiculously good. I got the pepperoni, and it was also an amazing, high quality pep pizza. The doughs had a good taste and char and were really pleasantly chewy.
The only drawback—reservations are hard to make. My friend made ours weeks in advance, so def plan ahead if you want to dine here.
Def would recommend this place for a fancy date night or if you’re celebrating something. It was a truly lovely dinner experience made even better by the very nice wait staff—S/O to our server Alicia, she was so sweet and made sure our glasses were never empty. Looking forward to coming back again.
plus a bottle of wine. Everything was excellent, just as expected. The food was on point and the staff were friendly and attentive.
Special shoutout to Kevin for being so accommodating with our seating request. Love this place and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who hasn’t been yet.
Fast, friendly, clean, and full of that confident charm that comes from a place that knows it’s good (and is right about it). The atmosphere feels welcoming and easy, the service sharp and kind.
We ordered the Sausage Pizza and the Margherita, and both were exceptional. The sausage had just the right amount of heat and richness, balanced by that glimmer of chili oil that made every bite addictive. The Margherita was everything it should be light, fresh, perfectly blistered crust with those bright pops of basil and creamy mozzarella.
And then their Tiramisu; impossibly soft, rich, and espresso-kissed.
Everything here feels intentional: simple ingredients treated with care, a respect for craft without the fuss. If you’re looking for the pizza experience to define your New York (or nearby Jersey City) trip, this is it.
