I’m moving my reviews over from Yelp. This was the ROTD on 2/17/2020. I’ve been back numerous times and love the place!
It feels a bit odd to write a 5-star review for a place that’s attached to a gas station but I was THAT impressed by the experience.
The wife and I stopped in for dinner on Saturday. Somehow, we wound up ordering the same thing…one of their sampler platters that included a taco (we both went carne asada), a pork tamale and a beef sopes. We didn’t bother with an appetizer or chips.
The food arrived in a few minutes, not a long wait by any stretch.
I started with the taco. I found the beef flavorful and not too chewy. The tortilla was soft and fresh. They added some finely chopped onions and a little cheese. A great taco!
Next up was the tamale. The masa was dense but not too heavy while the filling was a delicious shredded pork concoction that includes a red sauce. Tamales are typically pretty plain so I used some of the sour creme and crumbled cotija cheese on the plate to kick it up a little. In retrospect, I should have added a little Cholula hot sauce to it as well.
I saved the sopes for last and I’m glad I did because it was the high-point of the plate. The sopes itself was slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They topped it with some beans followed by chunks of carne asada and finished it with a bit of lettuce salad and a drizzle of sour creme and a sprinkle of cheese. Note: if you’re unfamiliar with sopes, I strongly suggest you try a real Mexican restaurant.
What was it that moved this from a strong 4-star experience up to the full 5-stars? The flan…definitely the flan. It was rich, smooth and creamy. Most certainly one of the best flans you’ll find anywhere in St Louis. Even more remarkable is that it was served in a plastic clamshell container, straight out of the refrigerator at the front of the restaurant. Wow!
Im 11yrs old and I know better…… If YOU mess something up….. YOU should be responsible to make it right!!!!!

Huge portions at reasonable prices leave you feeling satisfied.
The food itself feels and tastes home made. There is clear love and passion put into every plate.
