Ok, we’re both pretty serious foodies. We appreciate all levels of food, cuisines, service, and establishments. We were staying several miles away and needed dinner. Thought about going out, but decided to try DoorDash for the first time. Got the fried chicken, and were both blown away. Big pieces (legs and thighs) and as good as anything I can remember. Sides held their own too: green beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese. It was good enough that when we went for lunch the next day, we didn’t consider anywhere else. For lunch I had chicken noodle soup and a fish sandwich. She got a cheeseburger and fries. The wait staff were all quite pleasant, especially our waitress. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering portions and quality. We know where to stop if we’re back in the area!!

We were visiting Endless Caverns and found Southern Kitchen when researching where to eat. It was a great meal and great service. The ladies working out front kept us company with fun conversation and laughs. I personally had the fried chicken, buttered beets, and green beans. It was delicious! Can’t wait to come back when we visit again. Love from the ladies in the matching sweaters ❤️

We went on a very busy Friday night – worth the wait. Best fried chicken my husband said he’s ever had. Very kind staff and good food. Lots of locals in there and plenty of travelers like us.

We loved this diner! The fried chicken was hot and crispy and full of flavor and juicy too! Tried chicken fried steak for the first time and loved that too! Grabbed a malt milk shake and it was creamy and flavorful. Loved everything about this place and the wait staff matched the food, equally as amazing! Can’t wait to return!

Exactly what I expected! Virginia hospitality and home cooking at its best! Service and food were excellent. I had the sloppy joe special with well done fries and they were perfectly well done.

My wife and I cane here last night for dinner. Nice place, conveniently located, and the employees were nice. We tried their Peanut Soup, you.will to try it to find out if you love it or it may not be for you – the best way to put! Their fried chicken was cooked juicey and had amazing crispy; however, it needed flavor or some seasoning. The hamburger steak was dry and had no flavor, but their hush puppies were awesome! The fries were good! I tried the peanut butter meringue, the meringue was very sweet, but the peanut butter part was good!

Peanut soup is so unique and outstanding. I’ve literally thought about their peanut soup since I had it a couple of years ago and finally got to have it again tonight. So good.

Fried chicken is excellent too. And cool desserts like grape nuts pudding.

Nice comfortable seating and great atmosphere.

We found this place on the way back from Luray. We tend to eat at local places on our road trips and every so often we come across a gem like this. This restaurant just exudes “comfortable and friendly”. From the beautiful neon sign post outside to the staff and people in the restaurant, we felt at home as soon as we walked in. The place smells amazing and is very clean and warm. You can tell the owners love it and love what they do. We ordered the Sunday special, three pieces of chicken with two sides, as well as peanut soup, loaded baked potato, Mac and Cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, and salad. The food was an amazing example of good home and country cooking. Everything came out promptly and at the correct temperature. The soup was flavorful and consistent. The chicken was so crispy and juicy! The Mac and baked potato, while simple dishes, are easy to ruin. This was not the case as the Mac and cheese held up and wasn’t over cooked and the loaded baked potato wasn’t over done. We cannot reccomend this place enough and have actually added as a favorite on our trip map. Regrettably we did not try the pie and other desserts as we were stuffed from dinner. However, looking forward to it next time very much. Stop in. You won’t be disappointed.

Great local restaurant. Easy to find, prompt service, great food, friendly staff. They are known for their fried chicken and pies. I think their salads are great and dressings are homemade. I prefer ranch or thousand island. Turkey sandwich is great, comes covered in gravy. Been many times over many years. Try your favorite dessert, we love sampling many
