We had such a wonderful experience at Houlme. I found the food to be inventive, flavorful and a beautiful homage to island produce.

We are vegetarians, so we enjoyed that the menu had some fantastic options for us. The carrots, Kale salad and “autumn things” are what we started with. The “autumn things” was so uniquely delicious and one of the best dishes i have had in awhile.

We loved the potato pizza, it was smoky and flavorful. (Would’ve been perfect with a dash of flaky finishing salt imo)

The dessert was a buttermilk ice cream with an apple molasses- so good.

I found the service to be genuine, quick and helpful.

This is a special place and a must try if youre on orcas. Just make sure to reserve ahead of time!

Popped in after a hike – they were able to accommodate our party of five this Saturday evening around 5 pm without a reservation in early November, but I wouldn’t count on it. We had a variety of 4 share plates (not pictured: assorted fall veg) and two pizzas for a very satisfying dinner. Wonderful thin crust on the pizzas.

Dessert was delicious. Some of us preferred one or the other ice cream/sorbet – I liked both.

Total ran about $50/pp (most of us drank water).

A welcoming greeting was accompanied by a kind and concerned warning about limited vegan and gluten free options. We decided to give it a go and are mostly glad that we did. The dining space is cozy and comfortable, a converted home. Our first two dishes, a radicchio salad and the “winter things” roasted vegetables, were flavorful and satisfying. The pizza we ordered (due to our understanding that sourdough has less of a gluten impact due to fermentation). The dish was s a little disappointing overall. No spicing was evident in the tomato sauce. The raw kale topping might have been easier to eat if sauteed. Experimenting with a gluten free crust and more interesting tomato sauce spicing would have improved the pizza but might not be worth the investment to the restaurant. The server, Ben, was friendly and professional.

I give credit were credit is due. This review is long overdue and they definitely deserve credit even if photos may be a TAD old. That by no means degrades the quality or value what you will get when you dine at this fine establishment. Houlme may become your favorite place to patronage when visiting East Sound, if it isn’t already.
You will be welcomed with open arms and a beautiful warm smile. The service is genuine and personable. The owners work hard to create seasonal menus with the proper quality regional wine pairings. – that’s important not just any two buck chuck will do.
You will be fed with the finest local luxuries without the attitude that comes with that. The love for art, food, and culture is what power this chef and everything that comes out of his kitchen is proof.
As neuro-spicy person who doesn’t like different food textures or abnormal food pairing. I know this is a safe space to try new foods- photos below are proof.
You will leave Houlme with a happy belly, full heart and dreaming of planning your next reservation.

Food was very unique, but didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Ambience was warm, cozy, and unpretentious. Service was outstanding! But the flavors were a let down, as we expected so much more from this place.

We had the toast, chicken liver, and bbq onion dish to start off with. The toast was too hard and the chicken liver was too liquidy. Almost like melted peanut butter on warm, hard toast. The scallop crudo was served with a broth, which was poured table side, so we were expecting it to be spectacular….but it was bland; no flavor at all.

We also had the scrappy dish. The celeriac that was served with the scallop took away the butteriness from the scallop, as it was too crunchy and crisp, offering no flavor at all.

The black cod was meh, as well. It was such a small portion of cod, even small than the sunchokes. The cod was a tad over, slightly mushy. The sunchokes were bitter because it was burnt. As you can see in the picture, you can’t even see the cod as the sunchokes were on top

The pizza was the star of the dinner. Odd mix of food.

We were lucky to grab a last minute reservation at Houlme and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We skipped the pizza and had five small plates, two glasses of wine, and two desserts (about $200 for 2 people). We were delighted by every dish. The atmosphere was cozy. The service was super friendly and professional. My partner and I agreed that this was the best meal we’ve had in our 5 years of living in Washington (more memorable than Seattle’s Canlis). We really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend it to others!
