After traveling for hours on I-95 we wanted a nice meal rather than a fast food restaurant we found a near by Western Sizzlin in Dunn NC. It was just beyond the lunchtime rush and was seated without waiting. Chose the all you can eat lunch for seniors and found the options were plentiful. We could have chosen a grill cooked steak if we had wanted it which is totally different from most steak restaurants that are available now. Most offer one or the other. I selected fried chicken with livers, fried shrimp along with beef roast with potatoes and onions. The fried catfish was delicious along with the southern favorite sliced fat back. Very nice vegetable options as well. The staff was friendly and helpful and checked on our progress offering refills on our drinks and fresh tableware for return trips. The dessert options looked delicious but because I might have over did it my choice was a quick ice cream cone out the door. Our lunch was delicious and reminded us of how much we miss the Sizzling were we come from. Thanks Western Sizzling.

We drive from Raleigh for this buffet it’s our favorite and my teens love it so does my 7 year old. Wish they had turkey and stuffing on the buffet is my only request.

Your basic north and south carolina Steak House/Buffet, I didn’t try a steak. The buffet is pretty darn extensive and surprisingly good I thought.
8 or so variously prepared types of meat and seafood, at least a dozen sides of all sorts: every kind of southern standard food I could name and 3 things I could not tell by appearance. One even remained a mystery after tasting it. I thought the Lima beans and greens were seasoned nicely. Assortment of breads and rolls, corn bread of course but it was over by the desserts and I don’t believe in sweet corn bread so I didn’t try it. Soups but I didn’t get over to them, regular salad bar, fruit, about 10 dessert choices. Everything looked fresh and replenished frequently. There are no plates or trays when you come in but there is silverware, although come to think of it that was probably for folks ordering from the steakhouse/roasted meats menu which was posted up over the cashier area. I think everyday has a different steakhouse special (beef tips over brown gravy and rice on my day maybe? And as a lapsed vegetarian, I don’t know what “tips” are in this context…) after ordering a beverage (remember all ice tea is sweet ice tea) and paying for the drink and buffet at the cashier as you enter (no option to tip at that juncture), you move left toward the buffet room. You pick a spot on longish, potentially communal tables (booths along the walls) plop down your receipt and a waitress comes over with 6 plastic, old fashioned dinner plates. By old fashioned I mean like from the 60’s/70’s before everything got supersized. Are you cut off after that 6th plate? I would think and hope so and I was full by plate 5 and I filled each plate pretty good.
The ambience is…just watching other people eat and enjoy food. Older folks, half black, half white, didn’t see any Hispanic or Asian, only a few kids and the rare baby, lots of greetings of people recognizing one another. It’s not exactly an Army Chow Hall effect but it’s a bit in that direction; a little loud, a little austere. Nobody comes for the atmosphere. It’s the plentiful variety of good food at a decent price. I went on a Tuesday afternoon I think and they automatically gave me a senior early bird discount (I’m under 65) I paid $14.74 and left 4 dollar bills by my last plate and I would guess cash tipping was sporadic; it is a lot of fixed income folks at a buffet after all, but the waitress’s are constantly clearing your used plates, refilling your drinks and carrying stuff out of the kitchen, wiping down tables and booths, helping oldsters, being cheerful, etc. Give them a couple bucks at least, come on people.
I live about 45min away and I was in town just for an appointment but I think I’ll go back every couple months for the nice drive and the quite good buffet. Cheers.

Low health rating. Sad to see. Beef tips had a weird coating on them. Odd for steak. Fries were alright. Service is good. Always see someone you know here from town.

The line of people was at the front door to the parking lot before you opened for business on Thanksgiving. The customer service was great! I made a request for my family of 22 people to dine in. You made it happen without any hesitation. You provided professional and a warm welcoming service today! Thank you for a job well done! We’ll be back!

It was a nostalgic lunch and it’s very impressive to see The Western Sizzlin thriving in a building that looked brand new. As a child my family would spend time there every Sunday. It’s a treat when I see a location traveling. The salad bar was vast and fresh. I had a steak well done and they cooked it perfectly. My server kept my iced tea full so what more could I ask for?

An actual Old School eatery! The Real Deal. Right down to the burnt Texas toast. Steak was tender and perfectly seasoned. Potato was slow baked to perfection.

I love this place. Had the misfortune of getting an AWFUL order of tips, server suggested options. I was so upset I didn’t eat. Watched my wife have an excellent pork chop. Server was wonderful, I was just too disappointed to eat.
