I was very disappointed, especially after reading the positive reviews and the description on the website. I ordered three bowls of chowder to go, and the total came to $51. Unfortunately, what I received was surprising and concerning.
My order was packaged in three previously used jars that appeared dirty. One of the jars didn’t even have a lid and was placed inside a large Ziploc bag. I was told to be careful because it might spill. For the price I paid, I expected safe, clean, and secure packaging.
Because of the condition the food was provided in, I did not feel comfortable eating it. I was genuinely worried about food safety and the possibility of getting sick. I’m sharing this so others are aware of what they may experience and can make an informed decision.

I just enjoyed one of the most spectacular meals that I have ever eaten! It does require reservations but the owner/chef works hard to make sure that your meal is wonderful. It is a one-man operation but we never felt ignored or forgotten. I had the black cod and it was melt in your mouth tender. It was served with Brussels sprouts, local mushrooms and a quinoa cake that was out of this world. The dessert was a lemon napoleon with raspberry compote. The lemon curd was absolutely amazing! I will be coming here again, soon.

This was quite literally the greatest dining experience I’ve ever had the pleasure of having. We arrived just before our reservation to an empty restaurant and Zach immediately greeted us and sat us down to our table. He did everything for us, hosting, serving, cooking, and bartending. Was very kind but also very to the point. We made sure not to wear any fragrances per the website which I recommend you read. Everything brought out was one of a kind, leaving us with a dish that was fresh and interesting as well as so delicious it could end wars. Not mention how brilliantly paced it was, seconds after finishing a dish Zach would emerge to collect our plates and check in. Then within 2 minutes the next would be out and ready. We never heard anything back in the kitchen as the wizard worked his magic. Leaving us with a quiet but not awkward romantic serene moment to enjoy our food. I would rate it higher if I could. The food was ridiculously reasonably priced for the quality and service, not to mention the freshness of ingredients. I will make it a priority to eat dinner and perhaps even lunch or breakfast here every time I find myself in Newport. Thank you Zach! Your resume was a pleasure to read!

Incredible. A owner chef server in 1 human, for the food and atmosphere to be so top notch, is remarkable. To do most or all of the menu gluten-free brings Zach to near sainthood.
We didn’t know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised at each dish. Thoughtful preparation, top notch ingredients, and kind and attentive service. This is our new favorite place in our favorite coastal town. We’ll be back, often.
Please honor Zachs wishes and leave the perfumes and colognes for another time. Zach is sensitive and we agree, too much of that stuff ruins the tasting experience.

A delightful experience, feels very intimate! The Chefs Tasting is a stellar choice to try a variety of flavorful dishes. Zach is not only an excellent chef, but a wonderful host as well. Well worth the price, and I look forward to our next visit!

Stop searching for “best food or best restaurant” – you have found it. Farm to table, with food or allergy consideration and European style kitchen service are the deciding factors. Be advised, you must call ahead and secure a reservation as Zach only takes a limited amount of guests each night, which allows for a highly personalized experience.

I was very excited to try Zach’s and it did not disappoint. The crab cake was exceptional because it was almost all crab. The sprouts on top of cake were sunflower sprouts and I liked their flavor and texture. My entree of wine battered halibut was delicious and there was lots of halibut! The slaw was crunchy and flavored with vinegar. Before our appetizer we were served a slice of Spanish cheese and after the crab cake we were served a chunk of bread with cinnamon flavored butter. Both of these little extras were delicious. After our entree we had a light cheesecake (almost mousse like versus a dense cheesecake texture) topped with cranberries and hazelnut. I enjoyed the dining experience and was happy to find another lovely cafe for my visits to Newport.
