Well! What a surprise! Hidden in a small plaza, on a busy artery in Bradford…we might have passed by, but for a recommendation from a friend. There are so many things that make the space unique (comfortable chairs, the heavy crystal tumblers, substantial flatware, and actual linen napkins) each one a thoughtful and appreciated touch. Yes, there’s lots of varied options to choose from, including gluten-free. Don’t miss their daily soup! Or the Tartufo! Our server made this stop for lunch special (see photo) and the owner/chef chatted with us too-an unexpected, and thoughtful gesture. We loved the decor, and the vibe. We’ll be back, with friends, soon!

We recently visited Brick n Fire while in Bradford, drawn by its high recommendation as a top non-franchise dining spot, and we were immediately impressed.

The exterior appearance is a classic example of “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Stepping inside, the ambiance is a delightful surprise: a beautiful, fresh, and thoughtfully decorated dining room that immediately sets a great tone for the meal.

The Food: Highs and Lows
The menu is an appealing mix of Italian and French dishes. We tried a selection of appetizers and sides, and the kitchen’s potential for excellence was clear in several dishes:

French Onion Soup (9/10)
A Must-Try. This was, hands down, the star of the meal. The broth had a perfect balance of savoury, herby flavours (thyme, bay leaf, parsley) and good-sized, tender onions. The crostini and the mix of Gruyère and mozzarella cheese were spot-on.

Baked Eggplant (7/10)
A very solid and well-executed dish. The thin, even slices of eggplant, mixed with ricotta and topped with an herby tomato sauce and mozzarella, were quite good.

However, a couple of dishes missed the mark, particularly the main protein:

Wild Mushroom Pizza (6/10)
The crust was thin but slightly crispy, which we personally wished was a little softer to complement the toppings. The roasted garlic and medley of mushrooms were great. However, the pesto sauce was slightly overpowering and had an unusual flavour, making some of the slices taste like wilted basil. A lighter, fresher-tasting pesto would allow the other great ingredients to truly shine.

Chicken Parmesan (4/10): The Main Concern. While the dish was visually appealing and the accompanying linguine with Alfredo sauce was excellent, the chicken itself was disappointing. The meat was unusually soft and lacked any distinct chicken flavour, tasting only of the breading, sauce, and cheese. This is likely due to either a high level of moisture retention from brining/tenderizing, or the chicken simply wasn’t seasoned sufficiently before being breaded and cooked. A firmer texture and more flavour within the chicken itself would dramatically improve this otherwise well-presented dish.

Service and Overall Experience
The staff worked hard to manage the dining room, and our server was friendly. We did note a couple of minor service hiccups. Specifically, there was a miscommunication regarding the baked eggplant, which we had requested as an appetizer but was delivered with the main courses instead. We also experienced a slight delay in getting our drinks. While these things can happen on a busy night, ensuring order clarity and prompt drink service is key to elevating the overall experience.

On a positive note, the restrooms were spotless and well-stocked, which reflects a great level of care for the facility.

Overall, our experience was “good” when it could have been “great.” We saw the passion and quality in dishes like the French Onion Soup and the excellent pasta on the Chicken Parmesan plate. We are not deterred from returning and hope that focusing on consistency—especially refining the seasoning and texture of the main proteins and tightening up the service flow—will turn this promising spot into a truly exceptional one.

Awesome restaurant; we were headed to Orillia from Toronto, stuck in rush hour traffic, had not eaten all day, saw the wicked reviews and then saw the incredible menu and said, “let’s get dinner and wait the traffic out!” Well, we were super glad we did, the food was incredible. We had the muscles appetizer, squid ink pasta with shrimp with scallops, prosciutto pizza, and most important of all—WINE!. Food was 5/5, our server who was the supervisor that evening was 5/5, atmosphere 5/5, the only thing was that my fork had some stuff stuck to it and I asked for a new fork and it had more stuff stuck to it. HOWEVER, the washroom was beautiful and nice-and-clean, which is usually a very good indicator of cleanliness! So I’m sure whoever was on cleaning duty that day had a bit of an over site, wasn’t a huge turn off for me considering how great everything was. I’m sure it’s not an everyday thing. Despite that, left a nice 20% tip. Would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back again! Great find!! Thanks for the awesome experience!

Don’t judge this place by the outside – the food and atmosphere inside are a pleasant surprise. This was our second visit, we ordered the rack of lamb and the beef tenderloin, and both were absolutely delicious, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. We’ll definitely be back again!

Looks basic on the outside but decadent interior where you can emerge yourself in the ambience. Spacious and cozy and fills up fast. Some dishes had decent portion but overall prices were high. Food was quite delicious, especially sacchetti. Server was great and helpful.

My one feedback is to label the vegetarian dish so patrons don’t have to play guessing game (or order the wrong fish for that matter).

First time diners for a celebration of 3, and we were more than impressed.

Ambiance is very romantic, lighting nice, pops of colour , Chairs, tables, dishes etc make you forget you are in a strip plaza . Very classy place , don’t be fooled by the plaza it is in. The plaza is basic but has good parking .

Our waiter was Jo Jo(Jocelyn) and she was super professional and helpful. Very funny and personable . We really appreciated her personality !

We met and spoke to the chef, who runs the place with his wife. They are passionate about their business and the proof was in the food!

Our drinks came in beautiful glasses and stemware . The drinks were just perfect and my husband enjoyed their house red. Their spin on a Gin and tonic was delicious.

Our food choices were all very good !
Family style Caesar salad had lots of fresh Reggiano, the Fresh oysters were really enjoyed by my husband and daughter . The grilled calamari was nicely done with tomatoes in a light sauce.. really nice .

The pizza was delicious and they do have a gluten free option ! They also have a gluten free pasta option and many items on menu that can create a great gluten free meal! Which I appreciated!

My daughter loved her lobster Mac and Cheese .. she had regular not gluten free. She took the leftovers home, it was so good!

I had the seafood special and wow did it impress. Did a roast potato substitution to avoid cream for my diet and wow! Was amazing ..

They know what is in their food because it is clean eating, so they were easily able to substitute and accommodate what I needed!

We will be back!

Also a nice place to just have drinks and a pizza at the front area!

Went for a late lunch with friends. Here’s an honest review. We ordered a margarita pizza for an appetizer- it was ok. The seafood linguine did not have fresh fish but the pasta had a bland flavour. The Atlantic salmon dish was overcooked. Being Italian, we know good food. The menu does look fantastic and we have been before. But for a $350 lunch we expected a better execution. To be fair, we will give them another try.

We thought we’d try something different and this restaurant was recommended by a friend who had been there previously.
Despite the unassuming exterior, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm and inviting ambiance of the restaurant when we stepped inside.
As this was a Tuesday evening, we were seated immediately. The server was very friendly, prompt and professional.
Our group consisted of six well travelled adults, and each of us was extremely pleased with the quality of our meals. We were also pleasantly surprised by the half price wine that we were not expecting on a Tuesday evening. The owner / chef made a point of greeting all the customers, which was a nice touch also.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable experience, and I expect that we will be back again.

My husband and I went last night for the first time for our 5 year anniversary. It is amazing inside and the outside does not do it justice. The food was amazing, variety on menu was abundant and pricing was great for a fancier sit down upscale restaurant but pricing not too much that you could not come weekly as a local hangout, as they have many specials. The waitstaff was really friendly and attentive. The chef came to ask about our meals. I had Brie fries and sacchetti my husband had stuffed chicken and we had dessert, creme brûlée and the homemade butter tart, we also had drinks and bill was very reasonable. Hidden Gem worth the drive if you’re not local. Top quality truly amazing place and we will be back as it is now my top favourite in the area! I forgot to take pictures as not my style but presentation was also beautiful.

Second time at Brick n Fire and another good experience. Jojo was great, she was very accommodating and gave good recommendations on the menu and it did not disappoint. The saganaki was very good. The sacchetti was amazing, full of flavour. The only downside was the potato cake that came as a side was a bit on the cold side and the beer was a bit warm.
