Sleek, contemporary space for innovative sushi & Japanese small plates such as Kobe beef skewers.

We were very pleasantly surprised with our lunch at Kata Robata. The service was excellent, the food was great, and the restaurant was beautiful.
House made seaweed salad – A unique seaweed salad that was served with a sesame vinaigrette. It was tasty, but felt a bit pricey for what it was (and the portion). We liked it, but not really at the top of the list for next time.
Spicy Soy Ramen – The broth was rich, but we found the soy milk broth to be a bit overpowering. Not the best ramen we had, but it was still quite good.
Sushi (Tuna, Sea Bream, Horse Mackerel, Hotate): All were excellent with a nice fish to rice ratio. The sushi rice was excellently seasoned without it being overpowering or too bland
Chirashi – an impressive selection of fish over perfect sushi rice. Our selection included 2 pieces of o’toro, chu toro, blue fin tuna, salmon, salmon egg, eel, (1 piece) sea bream, amberjack, striped jack, and egg omelet. For the price, we felt that this was well worth it and it really highlighted the amazing quality of fish.
Matcha shaved ice with red bean ice cream: This desert was HUGE for the price! The matcha flavor was excellent and was one of the best shaved ice that I’ve had!

I dined at Kata Robata today and it was such a thoughtfully curated experience from start to finish. I began with the mixed seaweed salad, a blend of about five different seaweeds tossed with sauce tableside, and it honestly tasted floral, oceanic, and almost otherworldly. For rolls, I tried three standouts. The Tropical Spicy Tuna Roll was vibrant and balanced with the mango and wasabi vinaigrette, a solid 4 out of 5. The Ocean Picante Roll had great heat and texture from the asparagus tempura and chili oil, also a 4 out of 5. But the Rising Sun Roll completely stole the show. The yellowtail, peppercorn tuna, avocado, and truffle vinaigrette combination was refined, clean, and deeply satisfying, an easy 5 out of 5.
For dessert, we shared the green tea bean cake with ice cream, soft, delicate, and incredibly fresh, followed by hot green tea that was refilled attentively without ever asking. The service, pacing, and freshness of the food made the entire meal feel special. After Uchiko, Kata Robata now firmly holds my number two spot for sushi in Houston, and honestly, on some days, it gives Uchiko real competition.

Having celebrated my birthday twice at Kata, I can safely say that this place is something you don’t want to pass on. The service is exceptional from start to finish and the restaurant itself offers a minimalist luxury feel. The black miso cod is one of the best fish dishes I have ever had, and the grilled octopus is just as good. Their sushi is fresh as well. I can’t wait to come back for another celebration or just for a nice meal.

We came here because I saw they have katsudon in the pictures but it turns out kastu don is for lunch only, so will need to come back for that! I was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t have kastudon when I was craving for it but everything about the restaurant makes the visit worth it! We ordered a few more items than in the pictures (they’re so good that I forgot to take a picture) and we loved everything! A bit pricey but worth it!

Came to celebrate my birthday and Van was FANTASTIC!! Best service I’ve ever had and the food was great too! He took extra care to make sure to answer our questions and asked about allergies.
The presentation was impeccable, every dish looked fantastic and tasted even better. We got the kata house salad, lobster and crab ramen, Wagyu Katsu Sando, Japanese wagyu beef, velvet lychee, and the old fashion way. All mouth watering
The tomatoes were so good my husband who doesn’t like tomatoes won’t stop talking about them, and the velvet lychee was probably the best cocktail I’ve had in awhile.
For desert I ordered the warm blueberry cake that came with earl gray lemon ice cream and it was just to die for! Our server brought me a serving of green tea cheesecake which was also incredible! My husband got coffee afterward and he says it’s the best coffee he’s ever had.
The bathrooms were clean and had a full heated bidet and were very well decorated.
Lovely experience would recommend!!

I have mixed feelings about this place. I’ll start with the good stuff, the server surprised my wife with a small cake to celebrate her birthday, love the fact that he went above and beyond he also gave a decent recommendation for dishes/food BUT I felt rushed throughout my experience dining. It was probably his style of doing things but he kept fidgeting with things on our table (removing trash, aligning places/cups etc) I understand I’m an OCD person myself and I felt that he was too but i want to have a slow experience while dining. Overall the taste of the food was good, price maybe a little high but definitely worth it. I give a rating of 4/5.

Wow! Such a fantastic Japanese restaurant. Cool vibes…and more importantly delicious food. We had the Texas wagyu sando, chirashi, and the sashimi for two. The highlight/surprise of our meal was when our wonderful server asked if we wanted the shrimp heads, which we assumed to be decorative, fried. What? Obviously the answer is YES! And man, that was really the best!!! And the shaved ice was fantastic! It came with a lychee flavored condensed milk???!!! Amazing. Definitely would go again!
