Incredible little gem for vegan Vietnamese food! The staff was super friendly (shoutout to Andy!) and the food soo flavorful and fresh. All the dishes were plated beautifully as well, you can really taste/see the love in everything. Highly recommend the bun hue, bun heo quay (pork belly with vermicelli), and the lotus salad and rice crackers. The flan was delicious too if you’re looking for a sweet treat after your meal!

Sen Saigon is a tight little space filled to the brim with hospitality and technique.
Before any food came out, we were served a complimentary steaming hot cup of artichoke tea, already starting off with some interesting herbal and floral flavors.

The bun hue was a really nice light lemongrass broth and a nice medium spice, I added some of the chili/garlic/ginger paste they include on the table. The medium heat pork belly bahn mi was incredible, they make it in house and layer soy rib, tapioca starch and rice paper, deep fry that, and it has the most incredible fatty layered texture. Heat and flavor was deep and complex with the in-house pate.

We finished with the Vietnamese Flan, also incredibly textured with some deep eggy custardy flavor.

Need to stop here every time I’m in Chinatown!

I ordered from GrubHub so I can’t comment on the service & atmosphere. I got the vermicelli bowl with vegan pork belly and I was pleasantly surprised how comparable it can be to the real deal & it’s kosher! At times I felt like the pork belly was somewhat of a churro texture & flavor, overall my meal was great. The portion for lunch was filling and the sauce was my favorite part of the meal. Well balanced, no fish sauce, and perfect amount of spice, although I would have preferred more since I order it spicy. I’m excited to visit the restaurant and try more of their menu.

Stopped by for veganuary and did the prix fixe and it was delicious! They ran out of the pork belly so I’ll have to come back and try it. The bun hue was fantastic and the broth was flavorful like bun bo hue. The appetizer sampler and honestly the prix fixe should stay on the menu! Didn’t snap a pic of the Vietnamese coffee or the oatmilk/ agar based flan but that was a sweet finish. This reminded me of the do chay you can order from the Buddhist temples in Southern California. Glad there’s a place in the city making tasty, authentic, and approachable Vietnamese food!

Finally got to try Sen Saigon! I’ve been dying to try their vegan pork belly and it did not disappoint! The layers were beautiful, “meaty” and melt in your mouth chewy. I got the Bún Heo Quay which is pork belly vermicelli noodle bowl and loved it! The portion size was large and I ate the whole thing! My partner got the Bánh mì heo quay (pork belly banh mi sandwich) and also loved it. They have cans of soda and seltzer as well as bottles of Thai tea, etc for drinks and there didn’t appear to be a bathroom for customers, so keep that in mind. When we arrived around 6pm, there were plenty of tables available but by 645, all tables were full so this place is popular (thank goodness!). Service was also great and kind – order at the counter and take a number – they’ll bring out your food.

I love Sen Saigon!!
The options are so creative. The food is delicious. The owner – An is wonderful and kind. If you see her there, you should talk to her.
She veganized meals she had growing up. She developed the recipes herself so the flavors are still powerful and nostalgic.
You could tell by the quality of the food that there is love and hard work put into creating it.

I wish I could cook like An. She is a master chef.

Non vegans should try this place too. Its delicious!!

Not what I expected in the best way . The food was incredible, and the staff were super nice and welcoming. I’ve been craving pho for a while, but as a vegan it’s usually tough to find since most broths are meat based. This place absolutely delivered. I honestly have nothing negative to say; everything was amazing. I love meals that make me genuinely happy, leave me satisfied, and don’t make me feel heavy or sluggish. 10/10, highly recommend!

I ordered the Pho Sen & Bun Cha Gio

During my undergrad, their was a small Vietnamese spot near campus that I would go to every so often to get their banh mi sandwiches. It was my introduction into Vietnamese cuisine and really enjoyed that taste of a toasted baguette, cilantro, sauce, pork belly and more that made it a staple of lunch during that time. Since then the place no longer exists but have continued to try other banh mi sandwiches such as Saigon Shack in the West 4th street area. However, when I heard a Vegan Vietnamese spot existed I had to check this place out just out of curiosity on what that can taste like.

Right away, even though the spot is small as its best for 2 people to come, sit and eat but most likely it’ll be a grab and go spot, I really liked the inviting decor with fishes on the ceilings and walls, relaxing colors and very kind staff. Deciding to order was tough but my order was Bánh mì chả ốc / Vegan Ham Banh Mi ($13.95) with their house Thai Tea ($4.50) and Flan ($4.95) for dessert. Yesterday they also happened to have a special on banh mi sandwiches so I got a Bánh mì heo quay / Vegan Pork Belly Banh Mi (normally $14.95) and will update this with her thoughts.

The lightly sweetened Thai tea with oat milk alone was nice and refreshing but when paired with the banh mi it felt like it unlocked another more earth-y flavor that made for a good pairing. The Vegan Ham Banh Mi was exactly as I expected it to taste – a nicely toasted baguette, cilantro, banh mi sauce, pickles, and coriander for that banh mi taste but their house made vegan ham and nut pate really made this light and earth-y which is what I was hoping for in a light lunch. Its a familiar taste but with a different twist that I appreciated and that is what Sen Saigon is pretty much going for. On the spice level, I went with mild and as someone that isn’t much of a spice guy I barely felt it so definitely if you have a higher spice tolerance definitely kick it up a couple of notches but if you aren’t you will be fine here as well.

But that flan. As a Dominican, we can be picky about how our flans taste and I haven’t had a vegan flan before but this was solid. Light, great taste and none of the after taste that can sometimes linger longer than it should with some regular flans. I had a couple of coworkers try it out back at the office and they too really enjoyed it including one that had to have more than one bite. Definitely a keeper!

For my first visit, Sen Saigon impressed and I will definitely be back to try out more of the menu. If you are vegan, this is a highly recommended spot, but also if you are looking for something different but also familiar you should give this place a shot.

UPDATE – I did ask my coworker what she thought of the Vegan Pork Belly Banh Mi and she loved it noting – “I have never tried vegan pork belly but was surprised at how meat-like the texture was and how well it meshed with the other veggies and sauce on the sandwich.” Definitely another keeper and updating my overall rating as a result.

️ Đậu hủ rau răm viet coriander chili tofu
️ Bò bía: vegan sausage rolls
️ Bánh mì nấm đậu hủ sả: lemongrass tofu and mushroom banh mi

I had the toughest time choosing what to eat because everything looked incredible on the menu! They don’t compromise on the flavors and personal favorite was the banh mi!

Hole in the wall – small but mighty! No frills, but priced well and fresh food.

We tried a few different items and were not disappointed! Super cool plant-based South East Asian food spot.

One suggestion to management: clean the fan that is mounted on the wall. That is pretty gross and would only take about 20 minutes to clean.
