We stumbled into La Tacopedia completely by surprise, and it ended up being one of our favorite meals anywhere in Costa Rica. We had just finished the Starbucks Hacienda Alsacia coffee tour and wanted to grab lunch near where we were staying in Sabana. Nothing fancy, just something solid before heading back to relax.

Earlier that day, we had done a quick Google search and flagged a few nearby spots. Tacos sounded good, but being from California and spending a lot of time in Mexico, we are always a little skeptical about Mexican food outside of those places. Expectations were cautiously optimistic.

When we arrived, there was a line out the door. It was a beautiful Sunday around lunchtime, but still, we had never waited 20 plus minutes to be seated anywhere in Costa Rica before. That alone felt like a sign we should stick it out. And we are very glad we did.

Once seated, we scanned the menu via QR code and it was immediately clear that tacos were the move. The torta was tempting, but seeing authentic looking pastor meat sealed the deal. Anna and I both ordered pastor tacos, and wow. They were absolutely incredible. Juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The kind of tacos that make you pause mid bite and look at each other like, okay, this is legit.

Everything about the experience felt dialed in. The food came out hot and fast, the flavors were spot on, and like many places in Costa Rica, you pay at the counter when you are finished. Easy and casual.

We cannot recommend Tacopedia highly enough. This is easily one of our favorite food stops in Costa Rica, full stop. If you are anywhere near Sabana and even remotely in the mood for tacos, do not miss this place. We will absolutely be back.

A very well known taco place with good tacos. The quesobirra is one to definitely ask for. Very colorful decor and ambiance. The only item of note was service was a little long as I waited an hour.

Delicious! No wait, lovely staff, even though we didn’t speak Spanish (I’m sorry!) they were very accommodating and made it really easy to enjoy ourselves huge portion sizes – they gave us to go boxes and we finished the rest off as an afternoon snack.

Fresh Guacamole and chips, Birria tacos that were out of this world, and pollo tacos with more guacamole and pico de gallo. Would recommend in an instant!

Also, their menu inside is via QR code and they take credit card so very easy to navigate!

It’s like entering a house, there’s a lot of rooms for a more private dinning and rooms with a bunch of more tables for a typical restaurant feeling. A pretty cozy atmosphere. And the food is excellent!

Came across this place in google maps and decided to give it a try. It was super cute! The food was tasty, and the portions were generous with reasonable prices!
Very colorful, fun decor, and enough people inside eating at all times.
Highly recommend!

5 stars all the way! Yeah there is a line-up to get in but there is a good reason for it! The tacos hit the spot and service is fantastic. This place took care of my spicy cravings with their green sauce/chutney. Do try their natural tamarind and hibiscus drinks. Yum yum all the way 🙂

Delicious little corner restaurant. Prompt service. Atmosphere ok. I had the enchiladas with mole; love the mole! Had better mole but overall the dish was (too much food) delicious!

As an American from California I’m not going to lie, I was skeptical at this place being “good” Mexican food. I was prepared for it to be a let down as I was raised on good Mexican food. Well, as I’m being honest, this place was AWESOME. The prices were good. I left STUFFED. The torta was phenomenal. The tamarind drink was amazing. Have I used enough hype words. If you’re not in the area, come eat here. If you live in the area, I’m sorry, you’ll start eating here often. Oh yea, and lastly, the staff were awesome. Totally recommend.

Incredible, one of the best mexican restaurants I’ve been to. You cannot go wrong with the food here. I just wish they served beer and mixed drinks, that will make for a complete experience.

It was really good Mexican style food. What I find interesting is that it tastes completely different from Mexican food in the United States. I need to go to México City and taste the cuisine to make a fair comparison.

Anyway, atmosphere was good, service was good, and so was the food.

The only thing I would suggest is beware of the parking mafia outside the restaurant. As with a lot of places in Costa Rica, there are people directing you to park when you don’t really need their assistance, but they expect a small tip as you depart. It’s a gig economy
