Was a busy night and glad we did take reservations ahead of time. We primarily went for cocktails and appetizers and found the food was amazing and a lot of exciting flavors. Highly recommended their ceviche and their salmon dish but the portions seemed slightly small overall for all the appetizer’s.
Can be a little noisy and a little on the pricey side.

This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to and the dishes I had here were one of the most amazing meals I have ever had. My boss recommended this restaurant and it is one of the only restaurants he comes to over and over again when he is in Chicago. If you are visiting Chicago, you have to go to Tata before you leave. I don’t know where else you can get Peruvian food like this but this place is a restaurant you do not want to miss visiting. You can’t go wrong with anything in the menu but I highly recommend the ceviche even if you do not like raw fish. The ambience and atmosphere is also so beautiful. For those looking for an instagram worthy restaurant, this is the place plus you get to enjoy really delicious food.

Still going strong since 2013! They keep bringing inventive Peruvian cuisine to us. Their Unita Kaipa and scallops are new dishes worth digging into. Home to the best pisco sour but their Royal Pisco is unbeatable. So vibrant and lively! Perfect date night and service is lovely! Awesome location too. @chicagopescetarian

We went in the winter so unfortunately we couldn’t see the rooftop but the food was still amazing! I recommend trying as many samplers as possible as it really gives a full taste of what they have to offer. The civiche is delicious and fresh in all its forms and the empanadas and very delicate and full of flavor as well.

I never write reviews but this restaurant is so good I had to. Despite all my travels, this is one of my favorite restaurants ever. The Classico ceviche, traditio apasionaso, and tradito apaltdo are all incredible seafood apps that are a must have. The loop saltado and arroz mariscos are incredible entrees. We enjoyed it so much that we got a second round of the ceviche, traditio apasionaso, and limo saltado! 10/10 one of my must stop places when I come home to Chicago.

We ordered the seasonal tasting menu at Tanta and, unfortunately, it was a letdown overall. The first course—the tiradito—was excellent and set expectations that the rest of the menu simply did not meet.

Everything that followed ranged from underwhelming to outright bad. The short rib tortellini and the lamb pachamanquero were ordinary and disappointing, with muted flavors.

We were still hungry after finishing the tasting menu, so we ordered the veal heart anticuchos. These were another miss: cut far too thick, resulting in a rubbery texture rather than the tender, thinner preparation typical of traditional Peruvian anticuchos. The dressing was also very mild and forgettable.

The qulla dessert was the low point of the meal—tough, flavorless, and unpleasant enough that we left it after a single bite.

For a restaurant offering a tasting menu, the inconsistency and lack of execution were surprising. Aside from the excellent tiradito, this experience felt lackluster.

We tried several dishes at Tanta Chicago and overall we had a great experience.

The drinks were an A+. The Pisco Sour was perfect and the Lima Llama cocktail was fantastic. Definitely two of our favorites of the night.

For food, the Pulpo Acebichado was super tender and flavorful. The Lomo Saltado was excellent and perfectly seasoned. We ordered the Cebiche Trio which included the Clásico, Limeño and Nikkei versions and it was absolutely delicious. We also had the Empanada Trio and all three were great. The Causa Nikkei, which is their tuna tartare, was incredibly yummy and one of our favorites of the evening.

The only dish we would skip next time is the Aeropuerto. It just didn’t hit the same level as everything else.

Our server, Ivan, was very good and knowledgeable about the menu which made the experience even better.

Overall, amazing flavors, great cocktails and definitely worth coming back.

Restaurant week 2026: great service and atmosphere, but was disappointed by the food. The cebiche Chifa (not pictured) was lack luster. The pato dumplings were alright, but the fish katsu was heavy and low quality. I expected more precision from Tanta. The lucuma brownie was good. This was my first time at tanta, I wish I had ordered off the menu instead of this RW tasting menu. I got the sense that the RW plates were lower in quality for the purpose of greater production.

I visited Tanta Cocina Peruana recently and found the flavors really exciting — their ceviche was fresh and vibrant, full of bright citrus notes. The presentation was artistic and modern, which impressed me, though I felt one of the main dishes (the steak) was a bit over-cooked for my taste. Dessert was enjoyable, especially the balance of sweetness, but the portions seemed slightly small
