Friendly service right away — staff was welcoming and helpful, which always counts. The place itself is small, maybe around 6 tables, but cozy and casual. Good spot if you’re nearby and want something quick.

Food was decent, but I’ll be honest — not amazing, especially considering the high ratings. The meat was a bit dry, and the bread came out cold and not toasted, which really makes a difference for a doner or gyro.

That said, flavors were okay, sauces were generous, and portions were solid. I think expectations played a role here — I’ve had some incredible doner in Germany near train stations, so that sets the bar pretty high.

Overall, not bad, not great.
Good service, cozy space, food is fine — 3 stars for me.

This is an absolute gem of a place, it has a great selection of food with a clear menu to choose from, pricing is excellent and portion sizes are just right.

They call your number when you’re ready and you can choose the filling of your wrap, sandwich or meal yourself meaning you don’t have anything included that you don’t want. Pricing was ideal too for the amount of food.

Rose, who served us was so polite and friendly and always wearing a smile. She came around and checked people were happy with their meal and tidied up as she was going around.

I’d highly recommend coming here for food

Once one of my favorite spots. Now a hard pass.

I remembered this place being great a couple years back and wanted to relive it. Completely disappointed. The Iskender plate tasted only okay. The chicken doner and wrap were extremely dry with no sauces and looked like they were thrown together without care. They had someone clearly being trained, which is understandable, but that is not an excuse for missing flavor or juiciness. The beef wrap was also very dry. The red lentil soup was watery and bland and tasted of nothing. The fries were absolutely dismal in both cook and taste.

The funniest and honestly stupidest part was the dessert. A single piece of baklava for four dollars. I laughed when I opened the box.

Nearly a hundred dollars spent for what felt like forty to fifty dollars of mediocre food at best. I used to recommend this place. I cannot anymore. Thoroughly disappointed.

Capital Doner is an excellent Turkish restaurant that truly delivers on quality and authenticity. The shawarma is prepared fresh with well-seasoned meat cooked perfectly on the vertical rotisserie, resulting in rich flavor and great texture. The sandwiches are served in authentic Turkish bread, which is soft, fresh, and makes a big difference in taste.

What stands out is the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, along with the fresh vegetables and toppings that allow you to customize your sandwich exactly how you like it. Everything looks well-maintained and professionally prepared.

The Turkish baklava is another highlight. It is fresh, perfectly layered, and balanced with sweetness and pistachio flavor, making it a great finish to the meal.

Fast service, generous portions, and consistent quality make this place one of the best spots in Washington DC for Turkish shawarma and desserts. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real Turkish street food done right.

I was hungry and came in to get something to eat. I ordered the Chicken Box which is like loaded fries dish topped with chicken shawarma with your choice of toppings and sauce. They offered a sample of the baklava and Turkish black tea. Everything was delicious and not salty. I definitely would love to come back and try more of what’s on their menu.

Everyone was right about the Turkish hospitality here!! Everyone there was really nice. I ordered the beef wrap combo. The first couple bites were a bit dry but it got way better toward the middle. I would definitely go here again if I was in the area.

We had the absolute best experience at Capital Doner Eatery!

My family of eight stopped in during our Christmas staycation, and from the moment we walked in, we felt completely at home. The food was outstanding, the shawarma and gyros were packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and clearly made with care and attention to detail. You can truly taste the pride they take in both the quality of their food and how it’s served.

What really made this experience special, though, was the atmosphere and service. The staff was superb, warm, welcoming, and incredibly thoughtful! They had Christmas cartoons playing for the kids, festive music in the background, and made my children feel so comfortable and happy while we enjoyed our meal together. It felt less like dining out and more like being welcomed into a family space.

Delicious food, excellent service, and a heartwarming environment!! This place is a true gem! We will definitely be back for more. Highly recommend!

Just like the doner in Turkey, made from real sliced meat, not ground meat. Very delicious. Portions are generous, and you can choose your own sauces to customize your meal. I really loved the ayran. The staff are friendly and welcoming. A nice touch is that they also offer tea after the meal.

I’ve been meaning to check this place out for a while. The doner is good. The baklava has gone up in price and size (now a large slice and what I consider it 3 pieces of baklava), pistacho. However, what really swayed me was that the attendant saw that I was going to be eating baklava and offered me a cup of strong Turkish tea on the house (and this is worth an entire star to me). He bought it to my table and told me to enjoy.
