Once of the best places on the Upper East Side. Sit in/pick up/delivery all great. Classy interior, nice staff, great food. Try the Crispy Chicken in Garlic Sauce.

Have been going to this place for 20 years. Can say hands down it is the best Chinese food in North America and that is not an exaggeration. The food is excellent, in addition to the service. They are the most polite, kind, and pleasant people. If you are vegetarian, they have a number of options. Make sure to order the General Tso Tofu and the Crispy noodles with vegetables. You will not be disappointed!

Can’t speak highly enough about this place! Ingredients are extremely good quality and fresh. I ask that my sauce be put on the side so I can control how much is on each serving and they always do this for me. Most take out Chinese restaurants will not. Just shows you how high quality their meat is that they can provide it fresh without it sitting in sauce all day. I recommend the Chicken and Broccoli, Fried Rice and Crispy Beef

Updated review:

Lunch specials range from $13 to $17 (plus tax) and include your choice of soup. The chicken fried rice was decent. But the eggplant with spicy garlic sauce was hardly spicy and was quite oily.

Original dinner review 2 years ago:

The crab meat asparagus soup and the Sichuan pork dumplings were good. The sesame chicken was rather basic and the fried sea scallops were a bit bland. What was slightly surprising was that the spice level was muted for a “chili house.”

Came in for dinner with a group and the service was great and the portions were perfect. Prices were fair and the spicy sesame noodles were incredible! Will be back.

Dinner at Wa Jeal was absolutely the best Chinese food I’ve had that wasn’t home cooked. Fresh, hot, spicy and delicious. Tangerine crispy prawns, sichuan chili fish cutlets, spicy shredded beef & veggies, plus spicy but cold mung bean noodles.

And the background music was reggae 🙂

The service was also first class, friendly, helpful and patient. I will eat here every time I come back to NYC if I can.
