Went here for my birthday dinner, and the food was very good, but the service was excellent and attentive (especially the waiter bringing the drinks). The portion sizes are not the biggest for an Italian Restaurant given that the price of the food is between 25.00 to 45.00 a plate, but the food is freshly prepared, made to order with great presentation. My appetizer was the Meatball Salad (a must get item), and my dish was the Shrimp Scampi with added mushrooms which was an amazing dish. My family all got Fettuccine Alfredo with either shrimp or chicken which was also amazing. My suggestion is to do valet parking at 17.00 if you are driving here because the West Loop has terrible parking. I would come here again for a couple’s date night instead of a family dinner night because of the higher price point for items on the menu, and because of the vibe, and atmosphere that is cultivated by the amazing people who make it to be a couple’s special occasion restaurant versus a family outing restaurant.

What’s good? The food! Old school Italian entrees in a fast paced, vibrant atmosphere. This place is not trying to redo Italian, it makes good Italian food.
Great first Alston in West Loop. It was full but not crowded and the there were all types of people—big parties, young, old, people on a date, family. Bread service free, a long wine by the glass list—thank you, plenty of apps, sides and the entrees you want to see.

The food was good, nothing mind blowing, but not complaining about that, the ambiance a usual Italian style…
where I felt a little miffed was all the separate charges for all the little things… e.g. my husband ordered a vodka pasta and the waiter asked does he want sausage, peas, etc. as if it is part of the pasta, then when we got the bill each thing he asked about was all a separate charge. It’s the principle of the matter not the price of every little nickel and dimming. Also, what is this surcharge? What are all these hidden things?
While the waiters were nice, even though I mentioned we were celebrating 2 birthdays at least 2 times as well as in the reservation…not sure why they only acknowledged 1 birthday. Unless again it was about the nickel and dimming.
Also, as a side note, the little chocolate cake they offered my son was so small… yet they came with 5 dishes for sharing… Huh? So again the waiter “suggests” more desserts… thinking it would be small like that piece of cake, he steers us to 2 more desserts… they are HUGE. While that is theoretically nice…
Most waiters at other high end places will mention hey they are pretty big, as to alert you in case you are full… but nope…
Anyways, all in all did not like the feeling of being had in the end. Definitely would go elsewhere for good pasta and upfront pricing.

We went to Viaggio’s to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday and it definitely did not disappoint. This was our first time and we will be back, everything was absolutely wonderful from the food and atmosphere to the service, I had the lake perch which you can not get like this anymore and my daughter had the lasagna. We also had the side Caesar salad (minus the anchovies) and a side of tortellini with Alfredo sauce.

Absolutely amazing! We were struggling to find a restaurant in Chicago that would allow a group of 20 to dine and Viaggio was so welcoming! The food was incredible. We will be back!

I visited Viaggio Restaurant in Chicago’s West Loop and found the food comforting and flavorful with standout pasta dishes like rigatoni vodka and a well-executed meatball salad. While the portions were generous and satisfying, I thought a few sauces leaned slightly heavy or overly rich at times. The ambiance was relaxed yet lively, with a casual setting that felt welcoming and unpretentious. Overall, the experience was tasty and enjoyable—a solid neighborhood Italian spot that hits the mark

I dined at Viaggio Restaurant in Chicago and really appreciated how fresh the ingredients tasted, especially in their handmade pastas and vibrant tomato-basil sauces. The pork chops were well seared and flavorful, though I felt the herb seasoning was a bit muted in one of the meat dishes. The dining area was cozy and warm, with a lively buzz that made it fun, though at times noise from other tables made conversation hard. Overall, the meal was tasty, satisfying, with room for slight improvements.

First time at Viaggio, and it was amazing! We were seated on time the decor, and atmosphere was lovely. Drinks were on point. Whiskey sour was delicious. We started with the Caesar salad to share, and it was great. For appetizers we ordered clams, and shrimp, and they were very tasty. For dinner we ordered vodka cream with shrimp, and it was outstanding. One of the best I’ve tasted. We also ordered veal Parmesan and it had the perfect touch of crispy, and deliciousness. Also ordered the braised beef pasta which was very good. If you’re a sweets kind of person, the cannolis we’re outstanding. Look forward to coming back for the vodka cream, and tasting other dishes. .

LOVED this place. Atmosphere makes you feel like you’re in NYC in the 60s, wonderful music selection full of Sinatra and jazz. Wait staff was super kind and really passionate about the dishes. They were running a Short Rib ravioli special which was one of the best Italian dishes I’ve ever had (please add this to the regular menu, viaggio)…though every dish is fantastic!
Can’t get better than this for a date night, girls dinner, or family meetup. It’s pricey, but absolutely worth it!

Gorgeous decoration inside! Though spaghetti carbonara was lack of favor, the portion was quite generous. I was full after having spaghetti carbonara. The server told me that we two could order one dessert because the portion could be huge…this was my first time hearing this and you could see he was correct as the Strawberry Cake shows below. The stacked eggplant was tender and cooked to the point.
