Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.
For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business.
Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.
Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

Their new system is fast, but a little confusing. Not as diner/ service friendly. Food is still hot & delicious.

This place is awesome. Staff was so friendly and helpful. We had trouble figuring out the kiosk but the lady came and helped and didn’t just walk away she helped all the way thru. She came over and talked to us just like other sit down restaurants do. Food was great and plenty. Shakes were awesome. Very very clean restaurant will go back to this one again. Give it a try.

I accidentally submitted my online order but I called to delay it. It was very easy to get a hold of their friendly staff who made sure that my order was made fresh for arrival. Upon arrival my shake, fries, and burger were all prepared perfectly. I was super impressed with the responses and efficiency staff!

Update: I ate inside recently and was underwhelmed. They only have kiosks now so you can’t order from an actual person. To me their brand reads old school diner and kiosk only customer service makes no sense. Order at the kiosk and pick up when then order is called. No human interaction. I am a fan of kiosk ordering but I would like the option to order from a person. Our drink/shakes came out well after we received our meal. Also, the employee that was wiping down tables during our recent visit showed too much skin in an area you don’t want to see while eating.
Previous: Steak n Shake is a non fast food restaurant with a window. I don’t expect fast service but the food is typically really good. I love their shoe string fries, especially when they are covered with cheese. Burgers are good quality and flavorful.

Went here for dinner. The food is great. However, they allowed a big group in who were throwing their paper around, yelling to each other and on their phones talking loudly. They left their mess and it was awful. It was not a good atmosphere to eat in.

Stopped by Steak and Shake in Hamburg early afternoon. Not too busy. ALL orders are done on the kiosk now. Which is very confusing if you aren’t used to ordering…especially if you want to add a milkshake to your meal (instead of soda). Very helpful server showed me how to accommodate my order. Tasty double cheeseburger and shoestring fries. Great strawberry milkshake.

It’s a shell of an experience if you’re looking for a dining era. You know, 50s nostalgia type deal. Very little interaction with the staff as you order via a bad UI kiosk at the counter and the staff that IS there – well they’re just doing their thing like robots with no smile or want to be there – but they’re there… for now. Each one with a dedicated task, not going beyond their pre-established duties.
Food is ok. It’s a tad above McDonald’s as to quality but you’re paying for it so value is lower end.
Probably come if you will have shakes too, else it’s just an aging McDonald’s that’s trying to stay nostalgic but missing the mark.

They expect you to order through a kiosk, and it gives you a printed barcode to operate the foundation drinks. That is ridiculous to have to keep up with a code for everyone at your table!! No guest interaction except the lady screaming out your name/ order number.

This steak and shake was great. There were three of us who ate lunch. It was happy hour so our shakes were half price, therefore all three of us ate for right around $30, and that is including burgers, fries and a milkshake for each of us.

I ordered at 1am. I was hungry after a long night shift. I got the single steakburger with cheese. The food was cold like i mean stone cold. It tasted fine. Well after a couple hours after eating it, I got food posioning and puked my guts out. I used to love this place but after getting sick, I will never come here again. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!
