Even worse, everything is off limits. You can’t refill your drinks. Everything is behind the counter. And you can only do take-out even if you’re eating at the restaurant – meaning they won’t bother bringing the food to your table.
I understand that most likely the rent at the Grand Canyon Village may be expensive. But there’s a certain standard of service and experience each McDonalds should abide by.
This one just blows my mind.
The website proudly declares “Open Until 11:00 PM.” Great! It’s a small town where literally every other restaurant locks the doors by 10, so my options after a long day of staring into the geological wonder of the world are: this McDonald’s or starvation. I roll up at 9:28 p.m. Lights on, employees inside, drive-thru lane empty. Perfect.
Then the lights magically shut off as I try to open the door. Drive-thru speaker silent. I wave like an idiot at the window. Nothing.
To the franchise owner: congratulations. You single-handedly turned the most reliable fast-food chain on the planet into a roulette wheel of disappointment.
So I drove to the only other place still open: the gas station. I now own a giant, fluorescent-green burrito the size of my forearm that smells faintly of regret and processed cheese. It’s currently doing parkour in my intestines, and I have a sunrise hike into the Grand Canyon tomorrow. If search-and-rescue finds me doubled over on the Bright Angel Trail, please tell them it all started with one greedy franchise owner who couldn’t be bothered to stay open an extra 90 minutes.
Zero stars for ownership. Five stars to the poor staff who have to enforce your nonsense. Ronald McDonald is spinning in his oversized shoes
They might as well make all the extra value meals right at $20.
Take your dollars to Wendy’s whose prices are actually reasonable or get a good home cooked meal at Plaza Bonita across the street.
As most places near the Grand Canyon, it’s expensive. Use the app and grab some deals. You’ll want them.
