Loved Somenya, and I’ve already been back a second time! I got the beef sukiyaki udon with an extra egg and it was delicious — the noodles were nicely tender and the broth was savory. I would also recommend the takoyaki. Especially good choice for a cold day. You may need to get there early if you want a seat since they don’t take reservations. It’s very clean inside with nice decor and artwork.

Overpriced for the portion size. Flavor is decent. Yume has better portions for the price. Udon noodles are the thinner kind. Beef sukiyaki barely has beef. If anything, the appetizers are a better deal. Good service.

Our favorite spot for Japanese Udon and Soba in Boston thus far! They have most of the traditional options, but they also have some interesting Korean fusion dishes. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the mentsuyu and broths had a good balance of flavors. Service was friendly, and prices were reasonable. Reservations not available, so be prepared for a wait if you come around dinner time.

Honestly, major vibe. We really enjoyed our meal here! Food was spectacular. The person who took our order was also really kind (I didn’t want my poached egg and so they added it to my friend’s meal for free since he did want a poached egg extra on his rice bowl).

It was great! I ordered the duck roast soba while my friends got the beef sukiyaki udon and another soba dish. The decorations were very pretty and food was good in my opinion. I liked the giant ladles they give you to eat it with. 7-8/10, though one of my friends didn’t like the broth. Staff were also quite nice!

Unfortunately, my party made the waitress’ job harder than it had to be. Thankfully, she decided to still give us the best customer service possible and even took the time to come chat with us. I am so glad she was gracious to us. I got the takoyaki and duck udon noodles and I love that the duck was both crispy and juicy. I will definitely be back.

We had an excellent experience at Somenya. The food was outstanding from start to finish—everything from the appetizers to the entrées, and even the tea, was thoughtfully prepared and delicious.

What truly set this visit apart was the care they took with my girlfriend’s food allergy. The staff was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and communicated clearly and confidently with the kitchen. Only moments after our order was sent back, they returned to let us know the chef had identified one item as unsafe for her allergy and asked if we’d like to choose something else instead. That level of attention and proactive communication was impressive and very reassuring.

Great food, attentive service, and genuine care for guests’ needs. We’ll absolutely be back.

Such a hidden gem in the busy city. Walking in, I felt like I was at a mom and pop restaurant in a small village in Japan. I truly love the unique charm of the decoration! I had an appetizer- crispy squid tentacles and it was good. The soda I got was also tasty! I will go back to try other food for sure!

Delicious broth and noodles. Cosy atmosphere, a bit of a wait on a Friday night but they had an efficient system going— it’s just popular! Must try the beef sukiyaki and the takoyaki. Everything is served fresh and hot!

A must-visit noodle shop in my opinion – unmatched ambiance, delicious soba and udon noodles, available in an unbelievable number of preparations, each as tasty as the last. Good vegetarian options to choose from as well. Great sake and beer to complement the meal as well.
