Last night, my friend and I went to a marvelous restaurant; it was in the Rancho Bernardo/Poway area. Honestly, I hadn’t been there yet, but had looked for something that was open late in the area. I normally live in NYC (the city that never sleeps!), and soon realized that not much in the No. Inland County of SD area is open late. So, since our friendship date was at 8 PM, this is the place that I chose. In other words, other than generally enjoying Thai food, our selection of this place was largely due to scheduling. Sometimes, it’s about practicality.

Yet, once we were there, we were both pleasantly surprised by the welcoming, relaxed vibe as well as both the quantity and quality of food that they shared. (Also, we didn’t have a reservation; but they still promptly seated us, even though it was fairly busy then, which we appreciated.) We ordered countless items from the menu, and they were all tasteful and oh so filling. We went home with more than half a dozen to-go boxes, too! : ) I particularly enjoyed the coconut milk soup with veggies and the dessert, which was the fried banana rolls paired with coconut ice cream. Can you infer that I’m into coconut everything?? LOL

Last but not least, big shoutouts go out to Ivan and Roberto, for their loving hospitality and epic service. Roberto was so patient, as we asked him plenty of questions about the menu and garnered his recommendations. And – per our request – everything came out with mild, rather than maximum spice levels. Brilliant! So grateful for this wonderful experience — even their fortune cookies were spot on. : ) I wish them only good fortune from here on out!

Only the Best, Katherine (& dinner companion)

We came in for dinner on a week night. We sat outside on their front patio since the weather was nice and it was a bit chilly inside with the AC on.

The food came out really fast after we placed our orders. We really like the bbq pork drunken noodle, Chicken yellow curry, and the pineapple fried rice dishes.
The Pad Thai was not very good. It was bland and dry. The rice noodles were stuck together. I ended up pouring the yellow curry sauce over it to make it better.
The mango sticky rice dessert was perfect!

Service was nice too. We were checked on often even though we were outside on the patio.

Ordered take out. Was excited. I really don’t leave negative reviews as I’m always pretty open to new places as a first time try.

Unfortunately, Urban Thai kitchen deserves some less than positive feedback. I got the “eggplant” dish with added duck. I got five(5!) small bites of eggplant in my $21.95 order. See the photo. You can buy several whole eggplants for that price so serve that portion in a veggie dish is absurd. The duck, while tasting ok, was dry to the point of being inedible. Honestly just very disappointed. The curry and spring rolls were acceptable.

Got seated right away and after ordering, the food came out super quick!
Ordered the fresh spring rolls, shrimp pad see ew, and thai tea. I thought the spring rolls were okay, but the pad see ew was great! Also i was able to adjust the thai tea with milk substitute and make it “less sweet”, so that was appreciated.

One of my fav spots. Drunken Noodles, Panang Curry, and basil fried rice are my favs. Husband really loves the lump crab fried rice. The crispy dark meat chicken is a must on any rice or noodle dish. Friendly service, laid back atmosphere. Only suggestion is that they change their surface cleaner. The chemical scent is too strong.

Pleasantly surprised by the food and service here, given that it looks like a generic chain restaurant. Got the green curry with mock duck – really cool that they offer that as a protein. Also, they don’t charge extra for brown rice. Service was fast and friendly. Would definitely go back.

Food was good but there are better Thai restaurants. Spicy Basil Fried Rice and Eggplant Wok. Service was lacking took long time to pay overall 7.5/10

Urban Thai has the best drunken noodles I’ve had in San Diego! I always order drunken noodles when I go to a Thai restaurant, and these were hands-down my favorite. They weren’t dry at all—the sauce was super flavorful without overpowering the other ingredients. I really enjoyed it! Just a heads-up: if you don’t handle spicy food well, avoid level 2—it’s hotter than you might expect!

So we haven’t had Thai food since we left Okinawa , Japan, and also visited Thailand. Once you’ve been there, you’re kind of skeptical about eating anywhere else. In fact, I still haven’t even eaten sushi in California yet. So we took a chance on this place mainly because we had to drop my son off somewhere close and we had an hour to kill and we were hungry so we stopped in.
We looked at some of the reviews and decided to follow suit, I ordered the drunken noodles and my wife got the curry with chicken she also had a cup of soup

For starters, I ordered the fried vegetable eggrolls. Let me tell you they were delicious and if that was setting, the tone for the evening we were in for a culinary delight.

First, let me get some things out of the way the place is small, even though they have outdoor seating so expect to wait maybe at least 10 to 15 minutes for a table when they are crowded. They’re in a strip mall. Parking is sometimes tight especially during the busy time. They do a pretty good takeout business from what I observed but best to be patient when looking for parking and also looking for a seat especially if you’re bringing a party of more we were only two people eating that night so we seated rather quickly. Our waiters name was Gabriel and he couldn’t have been more helpful. We loved everything on the menu and he helped us select some of his for us to try which were right on point as I mentioned earlier.

Drunken noodles are awesome. Fried vegetable sprite eggrolls were amazing and my wife soup and main dish or fantastic. Everything came out warm and delicious. I recommend trying this place. It’s pretty cool and very reasonable on the budget. You’re probably wondering when I go back again?

Well, we did the next night only because my son loves Thai food and we wanted to see if he enjoyed this restaurant which he did. We did order one additional menu item this go around, which was for dessert the mango sticky rice. It was so delicious right on point just as we remember it when we had it in Chang Mai.

So it looks like we found a pretty good place. I attached some pictures didn’t do any video this time. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Good luck.

Came here for a munch meeting and the atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. Service was great as well and the food wasn’t bad. We ordered papaya salad, chicken pad Thai and pineapple shrimp fried rice.
