Fish Heads Bar & Grill is an absolute must when visiting the Outer Banks. I’ve been coming here every summer since I was a kid, and the atmosphere never disappoints. Sitting out on the pier with ocean views, live music, and that classic OBX vibe makes it one of those places that instantly feels like vacation.
It’s always laid-back, welcoming, and full of great energy. Whether you’re stopping in after the beach or making it part of your yearly tradition, Fish Heads is a place that keeps you coming back. A proper Outer Banks trip isn’t complete without it.

Don’t turn into the parking lot! Park on the median on the right just before you turn in. The lot is angled parking with no outlet. It makes for some challenging driving when you have your crew of people. Park along the road before you get in.
Okay now to the place…its awesome! They have a ton of outdoor seating but like today it was too windy to accommodate so they had everyone inside.
Its a great busy beach bar. Plenty of beer options. They have seating that can accommodate larger parties it seems. Wait time is about 15-30 mins on busy times.
No dogs allowed on the pier.
Photos are of the coconut shrimp basket and the crab cake sandwich. Both were awesome. The shrimp came out steaming hot! The crab cake was amazing. My partner got the fish sandwich, I didn’t get a photo but I swear they put both fillets on the sandwich.

Enjoyed lunch in scenic environment. Food was hot and fresh. Staff was very fast and accommodating. Weather was windy but was able to eat away from conditions.
Enjoyed watching the fishing from the pier too!

Amazing atmosphere. One of our favorite places to have lunch every year. The happy hour shrimp and fish tacos are outstanding. Can’t beat the ocean breeze and cold beer! The staff are excellent and friendly. Highly recommended Fish Heads. FYI…Parking can be difficult at times, so we walk.

Fish Heads has the best shrimp and fresh food! The rock fish sandwich special was phenomenal! The atmosphere is perfect for the locals and tourists! We had a great lunch with the perfect ocean breeze! Our server was very attentive and friendly! Our food came out quick and hot! The hostess were kind and prompt to seating us. This was a great first experience for out family and the kids absolutely loved it! There was plenty of parking.

Best waterfront bar atmosphere. Food ranges from simple (hotdogs) to delicious (medium rare ahi sandwich). Huge draft selection—no hard liquor on premises. Beautiful day, the water was amazing! As usual, service was great. Note: they are closed Monday/Tuesday.

One of our favorite haunts on the OBX. They have a tremendous beer selection and the peel-n-eat shrimp is a great deal. After eating, take a stroll on the pier and enjoy the view. As a warning, after you try this place once, you’ll be hooked and looking forward to your next visit!!

Apps, steamed shrimp and pier nachos were both delicious. Blackened shrimp tacos were the best (larger than expected and loaded with shrimp), great fries, burgers, etc. Great views and atmosphere.
