When we arrived, we were sat at a table with the other 5 dinners (9 total max.) outside the restaurant at a table where we got to meet them and to order pre-dinner drinks and to select wine pairings.
We were then walked through the restaurant to a room at the back with a large semi circular table around which we walk sat looking into the chefs in the center who introduced themselves and prepared each course in front of us.
I won’t describe all 22-23 courses but all were fun, creative, delicious even if heavily-engineered. We were encouraged to ask questions and were told about using a syringe to drop single droplets of liquids into oil to make the little be balls like caviar that burst in your mouth and to learn about the dark room where they use a black light to ensure they’ve removed all the shell from the mussels!
It was a terrific experience and certainly one that can’t be repeated too often because of the expense and the difficulty in making reservations but we would do it again and several of our dining colleagues were back for return visits.
We were given a menu of dishes at the end of the meal but this doesn’t describe the dishes. It would be good to have the option to take notes while eating.
Our singular feedback would be to slow the pacing slightly. It felt slightly rushed and it would have been enjoyable to savor each dish more. We didn’t have the wine pairing but I would have felt compelled to glug each glass to keep up with the pace of the dishes.
Highly recommended.
The service and ambience was wonderful with extremely friendly staff, our servers name was Nina therefore if you get to have her help you, don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations!
The black ink squid calamari, potatoes and chicken fritters were very tasty. Can’t wait to order them again and try others in future!
There were 21 courses- each about a bite. They were inventive and mostly very tasty. I don’t like goat cheese so they substituted one of the dishes with almond and it was delicious. My husband who had the goat wished he had mine.
As far as pricing, it’s very much in line with his other restaurants’ tasting menu but I think trying 21 tastes is super fun.
Our favorite was the nori taco – we thought that was the most umami flavor. They do a good job with the rib eye as well.
Our only issue was that we were seated at 8pm and it closed at 10pm. It felt like each of the courses were rushed and we didn’t get much time in between. Most of these fine dining experiences especially with wine pairing has been at least 3 hours – to do it quicker we did feel rushed and therefore it was my only criticism.
Patatas Bravas (fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce and aioli) – these were a little basic. It could have used a bit more flavor – maybe more spicyness?
Endibias Con Queso de Cabra y Naranjas (endives with goat cheese, oranges, almonds, roasted garlic dressing) – I normally don’t like goat cheese but I really liked this. The oranges were refreshing, and I liked all the different flavors together
Pan con Tomate (toasted bread with fresh tomato) and added Manchego cheese – can’t go wrong with tomato bread! I probably could have eaten a few more of these
They also have a few drink specials during Sangria Hour so next time if you’re around during this time, check it out but just be sure to ask for the menu!
Furthermore, the private room was not conducive to an intimate dining experience, as it felt more confined and claustrophobic than private. The total cost of the meal did not align with the underwhelming taste profile and uncomfortable setting.
Ultimately, the high cost of dining at é is not supported by the culinary execution or the quality of the private dining space, making it difficult to recommend.
