The best sushi restaurant in Birmingham! Delicious and fresh sushi, friendly servers/staff, and a laid back atmosphere! Can’t say enough great things about this place. Do yourself a favor and order the garlic edamame and tuna sashimi!

We had the BEST time for a birthday celebration. We had a party of 12, they were able to get us seated without a wait on a busy Saturday night and the food was INCREDIBLE!! The servers were beyond friendly, helpful and fast. They surprised us with a celebratory birthday dessert without us even having to ask, and the vibes were 10/10. I’ll never stop recommending this place – BEST SUSHI IN BHAM!

Amazing isn’t enough to describe this place.
My boyfriend and I come from a big city and we’ve had our fair share of delicious sushi. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when coming here, but to say the food was simply amazing is a complete understatement. This was some of the best sushi we’ve ever had and the experience and service was nothing less than perfect.
If you’re a sushi snob, this place will exceed your expectations. Authentic sushi is very difficult to come by in America, so when you do – cherish it. Do yourself a favor and thank me later!! All rolls are delicious, but the snow crab hand roll, yellowtail scallion roll and the scallop nigiri were my favorites. We’ll 100% be back when we’re visiting Alabama.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the Birmingham area rolls are fairly affordable. Staff is extremely friendly love to see them and love to chat with them and all their extras like appetizers and what not are cooked. Amazingly we always get 3 to 4 rolls a piece when we go, which is more than one would need, but they’re just also delicious. I also love to get the calamari and the green tea whenever I come it’s just delicious and makes my day if you go when it’s warm or cool enough. It’s great to sit out on the balcony. You get a nice sunset coming over the trees and what not very pretty area inside is comfortable too, though I pretty much always sit on the balcony because there’s room and it’s just so comfortable

Samurai Japan in Vestavia has officially become my go-to spot for sushi, and honestly, it deserves every bit of a five-star rating. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming—clean, cozy, and exactly the kind of place where you know the food is going to be good before you even sit down. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and quick without ever making you feel rushed.
But the real standout here is the sushi. Everything is unbelievably fresh, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. You can tell the chefs take pride in what they’re doing—each roll has the perfect balance of texture and taste. The fish practically melts in your mouth, and even the simpler rolls taste noticeably better than your typical sushi spot.
If you go (and you should), you absolutely have to get the Yuzu ponzu Salmon dish. It’s hands down one of the best things on the menu. The salmon is buttery and delicate, and the yuzu adds this bright, citrusy pop that makes every bite feel refreshing and perfectly balanced. It’s one of those dishes you keep thinking about long after you leave. I recommend it to everyone, whether you’re a sushi beginner or someone who eats it all the time.
Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the quality is top-tier. Samurai Japan just gets it right—every single time. If you’re in Vestavia or anywhere nearby, do yourself a favor and go. And trust me: order the Yuzu ponzu Salmon. You won’t regret it.

What I liked most was the service! We went on New Year’s evening not too early, and they were super cordial and attentive, we never felt rushed or pressured, and we really appreciated it! Everyone who passed by our table asked us if we needed anything. They made us feel like frequent customers, and that night was our first time there. The food is yummy. My kids loved everything too! We really enjoyed our time there. Thank you!

A much adored hidden gem, tucked away in the back of the Vestavia City Center Complex. The food is consistently good and delicious with many options for not just Sushi but beef and chicken teriyaki and lots of yummy appetizers. I go here often and we are blessed to have the restaurant and the nice people who run it in our community. Service is always great and the servers are fast. Some of my favorites are the Black Angel Roll, New York Roll, X-Mas Roll. Appetizers are delicious! Tuna Tataki, Takoyaki Octopus balls, dumplings YUMMY! They also have a good selection of Sake as well as wine and cocktails. You can eat at the bar if there aren’t any tables available. There’s also outdoor seating with a nice view of the sunset. It’s also within walking distance of the theater.

Haven’t had sushi in sometime..I am back to craving sushi now! I like to sit at the sushi bar and watch the masters work. Absolutely the best sushi I have had. The staff and sushi chefs (Itamea) are incredible. I went back to back weekends and will be going back soon. I shared the pictures with others and couldn’t believe the art they had created. If you can sit at the sushi bar the guys make it fun!
Back again..love this place.

The fried rice and noodles are great. We enjoyed the toyko roll and golden dragon roll. Decorative atmosphere and patio seating. Spring rolls are good.
