We started with the delicious bruschetta, and for our mains, the Chicken Scarpariello was rich and flavorful, and the catch of the day (whole fish) was expertly prepared. The meal finished on a high note as we shared the unique and creamy orange ricotta cheesecake. Angeline’s even provided a small, thoughtful celebratory cake for my wife. The outstanding service and superb food made it a five-star evening. Will be back!
Got seated promptly. Alex, our waiter was very attentive and professional. He definitely takes pride in his work. The food was amazing to say the least. I had the Oxtail ragu, which exceeded everything but thr portion. Truly wish it could’ve been more. My partner had the Cacio pasta, which she loved. The calamari was fresh too. The setting of this restaurant has such a nice warm/ Date night vibe to it.
Also great ambiance, great cocktails- it was a Saturday and the place was packed but not extremely loud. Overall a very good experience and looking forward to repeating it.
For food, ricotta and artichokes were amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection and tiramisu was a nice finishing touch
You could see how communication is present here and the servers were all so kind. Our server Tracy was AMAZING! She never let our drinks go empty and kept conversation with us while also being swift.
The chef running line, Carlos, was also FANTASTIC! He was a clear reflection of the kindness throughout the establishment, and offered clear suggestions and information about the menu. Great place overall.
Drink: In Bloom – This was a seasonal specialty, but I think they should make it a staple. We originally ordered it for my husband (since I don’t drink), but it was so delicious that I ended up drinking the whole thing and he had to order something else!
Smoked Eggplant – We were initially confused because we only saw tomatoes. Emily pointed out the black purée tucked underneath them, but since it was mixed with other sauces, the flavor was hard to isolate. Emily actually went to the kitchen and brought out a small container of the purée by itself; once I tasted it alone, I could definitely tell it was smoked eggplant. A very unique and interesting rendition.
Roasted Shrimp – Four good-sized jumbo shrimp that reminded me of a Shrimp Fra Diavolo in Italy. The sauce had a nice kick to it—definitely my favorite of the night.
Salmon – A very nice cut of fish served over a smooth carrot purée.
Chocolate Raspberry Mousse with Sorbet – This was a Valentine’s Day special, but I hope they create a variation of it to keep as a permanent menu item. It was fantastic.
Venue – The space is beautiful and surprisingly quiet, making it perfect for a date night.
The Check – The only annoying part of the experience was the 1% Culinary Service Charge for the kitchen staff. It feels unnecessary; since the kitchen is the heart of any restaurant, they should simply build those costs into the menu prices rather than adding a separate line item. It is only a couple of dollars. Why add it to annoy customers? Not worth it in my opinion.
The bartender brought me two complementary chai truffles that were the perfect ending to a great dinner at the bar.
If you’re ever in downtown Charlotte, I highly recommend a visit to Angeline‘s. You will not be disappointed.
