The Griffon is a fun, laid-back pub right in downtown Charleston with tons of character. The walls covered in dollar bills give it a unique, old-school charm, and the vibe is lively but relaxed—perfect for hanging out with friends or grabbing a casual meal.
We ordered a good mix of food: nachos, wings, shrimp BBQ, a Reuben, the Griffon burger, Philly chicken, and a chicken burger. The Griffon burger was the standout—soft, juicy, and absolutely delicious. The Reuben was good too and hit the spot. The nachos, wings, and shrimp BBQ were solid pub bites. That said, the Philly chicken and chicken burger weren’t great and didn’t really stand out compared to the rest.
Overall, it’s a great spot for drinks, atmosphere, and classic pub food—especially if you stick with their burgers. Definitely worth a stop when you’re in Charleston.

This is a cool place with pretty good fish and chips. The atmosphere inside is the real draw, with a rustic and authentic sort of British pub vibe. Really cool place to grab a drink or a quick bite to eat! My wife and I ordered the fish and chips, and they were above average I’d say. The tartar sauce was phenomenal! They offer malt vinegar and ketchup for your fries, or “chips”. But I think the portion of fish could be more generous. The buffalo shrimp appetizer was also good, but was pretty generic. The servers were very nice, but they seemed to get distracted a few times. The orders were put in late, my order wasn’t sort of forgotten; and they took my water from me without bringing it back. All honest mistakes, so no big deal, just things I noticed. Overall it was a pretty good experience. I’d come back for sure if I was walking around the downtown Charleston area and wanted a quick bite of some bar food. Give them a shot! If nothing else, come look at their awesome interior!

More please the crunch on that fish the delicious batter and flaky fish YES please! The fries were good but the star was that fish!
The club did not disappoint either! They didn’t skimp on anything loads of turkey, bacon and the absolute right amount of lettuce, tomato and sauces!
Delicious!

This place gives British pub vibes, mixed with southern charm. Interesting decor, unique dive bar esthetics, and plenty of different brews on tap. The fish and chips were tasty, as was the Kölsch they had on tap, and the Guinness was a proper two part pour. We experienced great service from the wait staff. Great spot for lunch or a proper pint.

I was honestly so surprised by how good this place is. I come down to Charleston all the time and somehow never even noticed where The Griffon was until now. Went with some friends and had an amazing experience. The Reuben was so good, definitely one of the highlights. Our waiter was also super friendly and made the night even better. Such a fun atmosphere and great food. 10/10 recommend!

We didn’t eat here but sat at the bar and loved it!!! The food looked delicious from what we saw. Friendly bartenders and a great vibe. They have a great drink list and a fun playlist in the background. A close walk to the waterfront.

So unique you have to see for yourself. Food is pretty standard American bar food, but very well done meaning not greasy and made with quality.

A real eclectic and interesting pub. Dollar bills are pinned all over the pub! There’s not much seating so it’s hit or miss if you’ll have to wait. The server was also the bartender so he was a little too busy to pay us much attention. I had to find him to ask him for our bill as he never came back to the table after the food was delivered. The Griffon burger was okay, but a little dry. The Philly sandwich was also okay. Good pub grub.

If you love a dive bar then this spot definitely will make you smile. Dollar bills pinned to the walls is not new in the dive bar culture, but this place wins just due the quantity bills. It’s small so go early. Definitely stop in for a quick beer, you will love it!

An interesting pub, I visited twice but decided not to stay so to be fair, I did not try their food or even a drink. It’s worth a visit for its character. The reason I didn’t stay was because it was a bit loud and busy. Having been to similar places, this one is a little over the top on the dollar bills being pinned to everything… (in my opinion) I felt it looses some true character of the building. Again, worth a visit, especially if you just want to hang out late at night with friends etc., you be the judge.
