Reviews
The Singapore noodles were good. I sent a picture to my sister who did mission work in Singapore and she confirmed they look just like the real thing. Again – flavor was spot on. The chicken in the noodles was made a touch better by dipping in the leftover sauce from the sushi.
Franny, the other bar tender was about the sweetest, kindest person you’ll meet, with a smile that could light up the whole world. Stop by sometime just to say hi to her. She checked on me often and between her, Matt, and Jesus you couldn’t ask for a finer team and a finer, more personable dining experience.
I was also lucky enough to have Carlos, store manager stop by. As every good manager does, he was out inspecting what he expected and modeling great customer service to his team. Carlos and I visited and I shared with him how impressed I was with the quality of food and service. After hearing that the Roman roll is his personal favorite, I got my hands on one and was again blown away by the rich layers of flavor and texture that it offered. If you want a party in your mouth, get yourself over here now for some great food. If you want to make great memories and friends, get on over! Matt, Franny, Jesus, Carlos, and the whole team – props and kudos! Well done and can’t wait to come back next time I’m in town!
OVERALL RATING
Walked in with the usual trepidation that any Pan-Asian restaurant can make good Japanese food and walked out impressed by what this place did well, especially in the sushi and sashimi department. Overall, the experience was very good and makes me want to return. The 4 out of 5 stars is well-deserved: excellent fish, excellent service, with room for a bit of improvement on some of the apps.
FOOD
Stuck mostly to the Japanese side of the menu so the following is a review of their sushi/sashimi and not a review of the broader Pan-Asian menu.
Edamame was good and cooked as you would expect. Soft shell crab appetizer was very good in terms of flavor but was very over breaded and would be even better with a more delicate crust that allows the crab to stand out itself. Philadelphia roll (smoked) salmon) and a chef’s special roll were both very good, with the smoked salmon being a hot-smoke flavor instead of the cold-smoked/lox flavor I was used to; the salmon in this dish was clearly the star of the show.
Sashimi platter was both very pretty on the eye and was also as good as it looked, with fresh and clean cuts of fish
SERVICE & ATMOSPHERE
Service was outstanding: our water was refilled multiple times before Even being half empty. The attentiveness of the staff and the pacing of the meal were key components in the overall experience, raising the meal above and beyond
FINAL NOTE
The “Pan-Asian” caveat: for those of you who are like me and give Pan-Asian places a wide berth for sushi, this is one of the good ones on the Japanese side of the menu and is an easy place to recommend for rolls and sashimi, and the only criticism here was a bit of over-breading on the soft-shell crab.
We came in an hour before closing which understandably is not ideal. There were more employees working than customers so it was surprising to have to wait almost an hour to get our waters and food. The waitresses were very polite, but no one knew who was supposed to be ours.
Wonderful service. I definitely recommend reserving a table ahead of time.
Francisco was our server and he is very attentive, kind, professional and friendly. Excellent service.
Our food was delicious. We shared crab raccoons, which were delicious and creamy.. edamame was perfect.
Francisco recommended the shaken beef when I asked him which I should choose between the shaken beef and the Mongolian beef. He was patient with all of the request from the table at a very busy time.
I tasted my friend’s chicken Pho which was so good that I ordered one to go . Francisco made sure everything was packaged up nicely for her to go orders. He was on top of refills clearing the table making sure to check in on us frequently.
I highly recommend Oishii Sushi & Pan-Asian in Grapevine. Delicious food, enjoyable service and delightful atmosphere. Francisco is who I will request every time I go!!!
Food is amazing, at lunch hour it’s really quiet, I guess people aren’t familiar with them having great lunch specials.
At nighttime it can get packed with families with kids and can get loud, if you prefer a chill ambience and good food got one day at lunchtime! You won’t regret it.
