Crab Shack is a great spot for a relaxed seafood meal right on the waterfront. The atmosphere is lively and casual, exactly what you want for this kind of place.

The food is solid and well prepared, especially if you’re in the mood for classic seafood done simply. Service really stands out. Friendly, attentive, and fast without feeling rushed.

It’s not trying to be fine dining, and that works in its favor. A fun, easygoing place to enjoy good food, drinks, and the Wellington vibe. Perfect for a laid-back lunch or dinner by the water.

Crab Shack – Wellington, New Zealand
Crab Shack absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment you walk in, the fun, laid-back atmosphere sets the tone for a proper seafood feast. The squid, the fish and chips, and the soft-shell crab tacos were absolutely incredible—fresh, flavourful, and perfectly cooked.
And how can we not talk about the clam chowder? Rich, comforting, and loaded with big, generous chunks of seafood. They’re not shy about showing that they care, and it comes through in both the portions and the bold flavours. Every dish felt thoughtful, indulgent, and genuinely satisfying.
Add friendly, attentive staff and a buzzing waterfront vibe, and you’ve got a spot that delivers on every level. Boy, oh boy… was it ever tasty. If you’re in Wellington and love seafood, Crab Shack is an absolute must. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Enjoyed the grilled catch of the day and the fish & chips together with sides of seafood chowder and a soft loaf of bread and butter. Food was delicious and was deserved quickly. Service was fuss-free. Had a lovely afternoon lunch and I’d be interested to come back to try a bucket of crabs!

This is already our second visit with the family, and once again it has been a great experience. Grab Shack is a wonderful place to sit by the harbor, watch the boats go by, and truly enjoy the atmosphere while having a meal.

The food is excellent, the service is friendly and attentive without being overcomplicated, and everything we tried was genuinely delicious. The rustic, down-to-earth style fits the harbor setting perfectly and makes the whole experience feel relaxed and authentic.

The value for money is very good, especially considering the quality of the food and the location. Tonight we’re enjoying the New Year’s Eve menu and are very much looking forward to it.

One small but important tip: keep an eye on the seagulls, they are fast, fearless, and very interested in your food.

We’ll definitely be back.

Going to Crab Shack was a fun experience. The venue has lots of interesting decorations and character inside, giving it a relaxed, waterfront feel that suits its location perfectly. It’s the kind of place where you enjoy taking a moment to look around as much as settling in.

A great spot to soak up the atmosphere along the Wellington waterfront.

We had the most wonderful night at The Crab Shack. We were greeted by the manager Kieran, he made us feel so welcome, got us a great seat. The mussels and seafood chowder were delicious, service from all the team was exceptional, the vibe, music made for a great night. Thanks team ⚓️

Overall we had a lovely night. However for a birthday booking (which no enthusiasm was shown towards) the high table was not very comfortable. The service was mixed some great with a laugh and a bit of banter, some that just felt like they didn’t care or want to be there. Definitely feel like my experience here 10 years ago was much better.
The drinks were lovely even though we couldn’t have everything we asked for due to sold out bitters. The food sounded delicious on the menu (which differed to what we saw online) but missed the mark for some. I enjoyed my crab and I’ll be back for my birthday in 10 years again.

We stumbled upon this place and was outstanding! Dee the Maitre de was so welcoming and Jess our waitress made the whole experience so much fun. The seafood chowder was devine and the fish burger was awesome. The Lemon Sherbet cocktail was perfect but the surprise was the dessert a mandarin, jaffa sundae with Cointreau. Go to the crab shack and create your own memories, we’ll worth it.

Honestly this was my favourite meal across 3 weeks of being in New Zealand. We had the mussels to start and they were honestly the best I’ve ever had in my life. Huge! And the sauce was delicious, great with Chardonnay. The fish of the day was amazing. Great location in the bay, can’t fault it.

Spent at least an hour walking the quiet streets of Wellington during labour weekend to look for Sunday lunch. Stumbled on this gem of a place that’s to the strong winds.

Thank you Natalie for the service and thanks chef for the outstanding delicious seafood curry and roti. Blown away by the fresh mussels and the presentation too.

Thank you so much
