The food is solid and well prepared, especially if you’re in the mood for classic seafood done simply. Service really stands out. Friendly, attentive, and fast without feeling rushed.
It’s not trying to be fine dining, and that works in its favor. A fun, easygoing place to enjoy good food, drinks, and the Wellington vibe. Perfect for a laid-back lunch or dinner by the water.
Crab Shack absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment you walk in, the fun, laid-back atmosphere sets the tone for a proper seafood feast. The squid, the fish and chips, and the soft-shell crab tacos were absolutely incredible—fresh, flavourful, and perfectly cooked.
And how can we not talk about the clam chowder? Rich, comforting, and loaded with big, generous chunks of seafood. They’re not shy about showing that they care, and it comes through in both the portions and the bold flavours. Every dish felt thoughtful, indulgent, and genuinely satisfying.
Add friendly, attentive staff and a buzzing waterfront vibe, and you’ve got a spot that delivers on every level. Boy, oh boy… was it ever tasty. If you’re in Wellington and love seafood, Crab Shack is an absolute must. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The food is excellent, the service is friendly and attentive without being overcomplicated, and everything we tried was genuinely delicious. The rustic, down-to-earth style fits the harbor setting perfectly and makes the whole experience feel relaxed and authentic.
The value for money is very good, especially considering the quality of the food and the location. Tonight we’re enjoying the New Year’s Eve menu and are very much looking forward to it.
One small but important tip: keep an eye on the seagulls, they are fast, fearless, and very interested in your food.
We’ll definitely be back.
A great spot to soak up the atmosphere along the Wellington waterfront.
The drinks were lovely even though we couldn’t have everything we asked for due to sold out bitters. The food sounded delicious on the menu (which differed to what we saw online) but missed the mark for some. I enjoyed my crab and I’ll be back for my birthday in 10 years again.
Thank you Natalie for the service and thanks chef for the outstanding delicious seafood curry and roti. Blown away by the fresh mussels and the presentation too.
Thank you so much
