We were four people that arrived at 6:35pm and told the waitress that we have an 8pm event at the Genesee theater. She promised that she’ll make sure to let the kitchen know. We ordered 3 main dishes, an order of Guacamole and 3 drinks. The drinks arrived in a reasonable amount of time but then the wait started, and we waited, and waited, and kept reminding the waitress about our tickets. If we weren’t short on time we would have walked out to look for another restaurant. We got our food order 50 minutes later which left us about 10 minutes to eat. A very unpleasant experience. I get that a restaurant may be short on staff on occasion (but Friday evening?) but we never even received an apology. To add insult to injury, only when I got home I noticed (1) we had to pay extra for paying with a credit card and what is worse (2) they added 17% gratuity to the bill without telling us. With the service we received I would have left nothing for the 1st time in my life. This was our 1st and last time at this restaurant.

Wonderful place! The wonderful lady, let me use her charger when my phone was dead. Came out here for court and was stranded. I was looking around everywhere, everyone either had a usbc charger or didn’t have 1. Once I walked in La Jaiba, I was treated with kindness and the food smelled delicious. I’m definitely coming back soon to try the food. God bless the wonderful family!

Great fajitas. I got the mixed (chicken, steak and shrimp) with corn tortilla. Warning…the green hot sauce is HOT and the red is FIRE! The table next to us got the boil so that will be next time for sure. The margarita was very tasty as well. Overall, if you are going to see a show at the Genesee, this could be a good choice for pre/post-show dinner.

We visited La Casa de Samuel on a whim, we were heading to the Genesee Theatre for a concert and needed a place to serve us quickly. We walked in to a packed house (theatre goers and locals) and asked if they could accommodate out time frame. They were very gracious, got us seated, served us chips and salsa (holy cow) and took our orders along with their recommendations!

Hands down, the best Hispanic food I’ve ever had! Everything was fresh and quality ingredients. I had eggs an chorizo, and my wife had Sopes! Everything was fantastic. The best refried beans ever!

We are looking for another chance to get back to La Casa de Samuel. We live in St. Louis and can’t wait to get back to the Chicago area!

La Casa De Samuel Has Everything You Want From A Authentic Mexican Restaurant. It’s Located In Downtown Waukegan. Fast Service, Very Clean Place. The Food Is Always Delicious, Which I May Add That They Carry A Variety Of Exotic Dishes Such As Cabrito (Goat), Conejo (Rabbit), Iguana, Quail, Wild Boar, Etc. I Promise This Restaurant Is A Must Visit! Oh And The Margaritas Are Splendid!

A local gem for drinks! I admit, the plating was great. Portions were enough to feed two people.

The food looked very appealing; but, lacked flavor. The spices you would typically taste in Mexican meals weren’t present here. I enjoyed the Chile relleno platter because I was hungry.

The front of the house had women making homemade tortillas, which gave the most authentic aroma! It was so pleasant.

The restaurant had more than enough seating on the inside, and some seating outside. Establishment was nice, decorative, and clean. The staff gave great service as well.

On-site parking is limited, but there is a parking garage a block away. The restaurant is in a safe and clean area… and if interested, you can bar hop on the same strip. All in walking distance. It is also very close to public transportation.

I’m glad I tried it; but, I wouldn’t go back… solely because I like my food full of flavor.

I had a spicy margatita and a burrito suizo. The spicy margarita had fresh cut jalepeños and came with a straw that came in handy to keep the pepper spice off my lips.
The steak burrito suizo was a hefty burrito, and came just how I like it, smothered in cheese and sauce! Would recommend!

Not your typical Mexican restaurant. Very good selection of food and drinks. Service was great. Handmade corn tortillas. Clean. Exotic dishes. I came for the mole.
