We arrived at 1 pm to find the dining room empty and the large patio really hopping. Fun atmosphere and such great seating.
Our Server, Jill, arrived about 5 minutes after we were seated. Ordered a Raspberry Mint Ranch Water and Diet Coke, unfortunately we sat with spicy salsa and chips, nothing to drink, for what seemed an eternity. Jill asked if we wanted to order, before the drinks arrived, which rubbed us the wrong way. She didn’t see the timing was off. Her attitude was so blah, without banter or emotion, she just moved on.
The Ranch Water cocktail arrived via the Bartender. Water arrived via the Table Runner, no Coke. We had to remind Jill who seemed bothered as she slammed it down in front of us.
Four tacos and Spicy Street Corn arrived to a table full of empty glasses (see pic). My partner got so frustrated that she went inside and flagged down the Bartender for refill on the Coke.
The food was delicious, really flavorful and well presented. Restaurant/bar is well decorated and inviting. But treating customers poorly is a deal breaker.
Carson was our server
The chips and salsa was nice, the chips being the overly crisp kind that I like but unfortunately a bit crunchy for my wife, the salsa was decent but didn’t bring much heat, or flavor beyond plain tomato; adding salt and pepper helped a lot
We just shared a pitcher of Negra Modelo
We ordered the three salsitas from the happy hour menu;
guacamole, house bean dip, green chile queso
The queso is cheesy but not really any heat, the guac is pretty good but, again, no heat, the bean dip similarly lacked heat but was very flavorful
Mixing the bean dip with the queso is the way to go
We split the Bandit Taco Platter;
deconstructed tacos with slow roasted chicken, carne asada, carnitas, tortilla, rice, black beans, avocado, pico gringo, cabbage, cotija
The carne was slightly juicy, but pretty flavorless, the chicken not dry to the point of being inedible, but it was close, the beans tasted canned and the cotija didn’t help, the green sauce on the rice was the one bright spot on this plate, but there was only a tiny scoop
The platter comes with either corn or flour tortillas; we opted for an order of flour tortillas along with it, which was fortunate, as the corn tortillas could be at best described as week old store-bought mission tortillas
Generally speaking, the entire experience lacked lime, salt and pepper, and cilantro
I had been looking forward to trying joyride for several months, I should have kept waiting; this was definitely one of the most underwhelming meals I’ve ever ordered
Carson was attentive and responsive, no complaints in that department
But I could not in good conscience. Recommend this to anyone, nor could I bring myself to return
2/5 because I have to start with 1 but Carson made it a 2 because she was good
The patio facing Central is great for people-watching, but the pack of unsupervised children tearing around like they were training for American Ninja Warrior had us moving inside immediately. There are heaters which weren’t on, and it was pretty chilly in the shade.
We were seated fast, waters arrived, and Carson came by shortly after we relocated. No complaints about her, she was a bright spot in this whole adventure.
We annihilated the chips and salsa the second they hit the table. Chips were a little thicker than ideal but fine. The salsa tasted like it forgot to show up to its own party. It was missing acid, missing cilantro, missing personality. A sprinkle of salt and pepper helped, but I didn’t come here to DIY the seasoning.
We grabbed the Three Salsitas: guac, bean dip, and green chile queso. The guac was basically mashed avocado with a dream. Tasty? Yes. Guacamole? Let’s not push it. Adding a squeeze of lime from our beer magically transformed it into something I’d actually choose to eat. The bean dip was savory, creamy, and honestly the star. Queso was nice and melty, just a little boring. If you mix the bean dip and queso together, though? That’s the real pro move.
Then came the Bandit taco platter. In theory: slow-roasted chicken, carne asada, carnitas, tortillas, rice, black beans, avocado, pico gringo, cabbage, cotija. In reality: a masterclass in being aggressively basic. The chicken was so dry it should come with a hydration warning, the rice was literally plain white rice (bold choice), and while the carne was decent, there was barely any of it.
Now, the corn tortillas… I don’t say this lightly: they were absolutely awful. Dry, stiff, flavorless, like someone described a tortilla to an alien and the alien tried its best. We ordered extra flour tortillas out of pure survival instinct, and thank goodness we did.
Also, still no onions, no cilantro, no limes, it’s like they’re running a secret anti-flavor initiative.
Overall, a pretty underwhelming experience. The food was bland, the seasoning was missing in action, and while Carson was sweet and definitely improved the vibe, it wasn’t enough to save the meal. With so many better options nearby, we won’t be rushing back.
My favourite is the street corn dip!! Fantastic!! The guac and chips are delicious, the chips are fresh!!
Their tacos are really good! I had the shrimp and fish which were tasty.
Overall, it’s a really nice place to visit and enjoy some chips, margaritas, and tacos.
