Akari Sushi is an absolute gem tucked away in a quiet pocket of La Jolla. As longtime fans of SoCal sushi (we’ve spent years eating our way through the Normal Heights menu ), we don’t say this lightly: this place hits.
The fish is incredibly fresh, high quality, and thoughtfully prepared — and Chef Goody’s menu absolutely slaps. I’d love to give specific recommendations, but truly we’ve been blown away by everything on the menu. You
can’t go wrong. Definitely peep at their daily specials list, too.
Service is fantastic and friendly. The chefs are happy to chat, and always make excellent recommendations if you’re unsure what to order. It feels welcoming without losing that elevated, special-occasion energy.
Perfect for a date night, but also surprisingly accommodating for kids, which makes it an easy go-to whether you’re celebrating or just craving really good sushi. It’s one of those spots you almost don’t want to tell people about… but you also don’t want anyone to miss out.

If you’re looking for quality sushi, cold beers, great service, & good vibes. Akari Sushi is the place for your sushi cravings. Friendly & knowledgable staff. Lot’s of space for bigger parties & a good selection of sakes. Fish is always fresh & a great variety if you’re looking for something other than tuna or salmon. If you like PB&J…don’t skip on the PB&J Tempura for dessert. Don’t forget to buy the staff a round of drinks if you’re having a great time there. They have a sister location in Normal Heights (SoCal Sushi) that offer a similar menu, way smaller but same vibes.

Stopped by Akari Sushi for a quick bite this weekend and was surprised by their lunch special!! On top of it being affordable ($20) it was delicious!! The chicken was moist and the sauce was amazing. We chose to get the spicy tuna roll (combos come with the option of spicy tuna or cali roll) which had the perfect amount of spice. The service was attentive and welcoming. Definitely on my go to list from now on. Can’t wait to come back.

Off the beaten path, but well worth the travel! Akari has a cute little indoor area for children to play and stay preoccupied while parents can enjoy their meal. It offers a variety of Japanese snacks and toys in their vending machine so you don’t have to travel to your local Daiso. Everything about the space is inviting to families with young kids & I love it! Will recommend to our friends.

Wherever you want more traditional sushi or fun and creative American style rolls and flavors, their menu has it. Tried the ahi tataki and the mango tango roll. Both were delicious.

As a sushi lover, this place has become one of my go-to spots. I’ve been here several times and the experience has always been great. The food is delicious, very fresh, and consistently well prepared. You can really taste the quality in every bite.
The staff is also a big highlight—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. They always make me feel comfortable and appreciated as a customer. If you’re looking for great sushi and warm service, this place is definitely worth trying.

Happy Hour here is so much fun!! There are 5 different apps for $5 and 5 different drinks too! You get to try a little of everything and still not break the bank. I got takoyaki, seaweed salad, and a glass of wine. We also ordered the Citrus Bliss and the Heartbreak roll to go along with the appetizers. The fish tasted fresh and the sauces were not overpowering. 10 out of 10!!

Such a good spot to get away from the high wait times and overcrowded tourist traps in La Jolla. Tucked away, but not too far from the main area, is this gem called Akari Sushi. Jonah the sushi chef was such a delight, serving up only the finest, fresh cuts of fish. You can taste the technique and art that was put into every bite that was served to us. The staff was so friendly, I wish I had discovered this sushi restaurant sooner. They have a great happy hour, and each day of the week there is a different special or discount. We came on a Thursday, and after our second large beer, we got a free house sake!! That was a great surprise thanks to their Thursday special. I would 100% recommend coming here and will definitely be back.
