TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

Dave’s Hot Chicken definitely lives up to the name — this chicken is HOT. It’s my go-to spot when I’m craving a quick snack of spicy chicken and fries. The food is consistently great, flavorful, and satisfying.

This location is almost always busy, which says a lot about how popular it is. Because of that, the service can be a bit hit or miss, sometimes it’s smooth, other times not quite as great. That said, the food usually makes up for it.

Overall, if you’re in the mood for seriously spicy hot chicken and don’t mind a busy atmosphere, Dave’s Hot Chicken is a solid choice.

I got the chicken sandwich meal, chicken tenders meal, Mac and cheese, and a milkshake. The chicken flavor nor the texture was anything to write home about. It was pretty mediocre, definitely not worth the price. The Mac and cheese just tasted like cheese, the noodles were a bit over cooked and it needed seasoning. The fries were good. The milkshake was good. The only thing that stood out here was how fast I got my food.

I have been ordering Ubereats from this restaurant whenever I am in town for the last year or more. It is one of the restaurants that I always order from as soon as I hit the ground in Seattle. The chicken is usually crisped to perfection and each time I’ve eaten it has been with my eyes closed and enjoying every bite. Today was a complete nightmare!!! I ordered the usual #4 slider with fries that’s supposed to come with 2 large tenders each on a buttery potato bun with drizzled Dave’s sauce, kale slaw and pickles. The food arrived nearly overdone on the outside, but uncooked on the inside. There was no kale slaw, pickles or Dave’s sauce on the sandwich. It was just two over/under cooked, gross tasting, chicken tenders thrown on a piece of sliced bread with zero condiments. They didn’t even have the courtesy to put napkins in the bag. Where they do that at? But you know what they did put in the bag, a referral card for a different 2.7/5 rated Gong cha bubble tea shop. Are you kidding me? Do you want to push somebody else’s restaurant but you don’t even give someone napkins? I tried to get them on the phone for 15 minutes or so, and no one would answer. I was steaming mad because when you have your mouth set for something and then you have spoken highly of it to someone else, it ruins your life. I was ready to throw blows with them. This has always been a favorite for me but now I will be hesitant to order from them again as they obviously have someone new working there that cares zero about the customer experience. I’m so upset because I had my mouth watering for the sandwich and I sold the hell out of it to my youngest child. It was so disappointing and disgusting.

I had a slight (very minor picky eater) issue and felt really bad bringing it up but Faaduma was so kind and gracious and took care of me and felt like a million bucks. She totally didn’t have to treat me so well but insisted I had a good experience. You have a lifelong customer in me now thanks to her. Highly recommend this location!

This is the best corporate chain chicken strips, chicken sandwich so far, comparing against Chick Fil A, Popeyes, KFC, Raising Canes, and Jollibee

Cap Hill location is decent if you’re on foot. But with a car, know that parking is tough.

Pulled up to Dave’s and the vibe was on point. Food hit hard as always — crispy, spicy, perfect combo. Big shoutout to Sav, she was super chill and hooked it up. You can tell she actually cares about people having a good experience, which is rare these days.
Appreciate good energy and great service — that’s what keeps me coming back

It’s unacceptable for a restaurant serving hot chicken to not have cups for water available. This is very poor service. I’ve never experienced this anywhere in Seattle. What’s the point of having a water/soda machine if customers can’t use it? Are you seriously trying to charge people for water?

I tried the 10-piece bites and found them extremely spicy, far beyond medium hot. The flavor was quite different compared to other breaded fried chicken, but unfortunately not in a good way for me. I wouldn’t order it again. However, the special Dave’s dressing was really good and definitely the highlight of the dish.

Food: 4/5
The chicken sandwich was moist and well-seasoned. I really liked the sauce it came with, too. If anything, I would recommend staying away from the mac and cheese — it’s overpriced and tastes like something you could find at a local grocery store.

Service: 4/5
The place was busy, but the service was about what you’d expect from a fast food restaurant.

Atmosphere: 4/5
The layout was decent — well-lit, with a classic burger joint vibe, which I thought was fitting.

Recommend?
Yes, I would recommend giving this place a try at least once. Although it is a little pricey for the food you get.
