I wanted to treat my daughter to a nice dinner on her 30th birthday. Saturday evening was my first time visiting the Casino at the Downs. I didn’t know about The Crown Room, or the fact it had just reopened after a 9 month hiatus. What an incredible surprise! I think a reservation is normally required but since the restaurant just reopened, it was not crowded. The room is intimate and luxurious. It has a beautiful central chandelier and high-end artwork on every wall. Absolutely stunning!
They have an incredible prix fixe menu! A gourmet 3 course dinner is less than $50. My daughter had Roasted Winter Squash Soup, Braised Short Ribs, and a tasty lemon dessert. I had Lump Crab Beignets, Chicken Saltimbocca, and a flaky Hazelnut Cream Pastry. The food, service, and atmosphere were magnificent! This was easily the best meal dinner I’ve had in Albuquerque this year.

The Crown Room is something of an anomaly. It wants to recreate the old school glamour of fine dining in a casino however when the casino in question is mostly penny slots in a horse racetrack located at the edge of a part of town commonly referred to as “The War Zone” then you’re more likely to share a restroom with someone with face tattoos rather than someone from the Rat Pack. The actual restaurant itself is also a mix of contradictions. On most visits the food has been top-notch and served to perfection. Other times I’ve received over fried calamari burnt to a crisp. My last visit was similar with excellent food though served with chipped plates, extremely water spotted wine glasses and an odd refusal to offer new forks between courses with an overwhelmed wait staff. Though I suppose as long as people are willing to gamble then The Crown Room will be subsidized by their losses and stick around in all its contradictory glory.

This restaurant is a gem! From start (Savanna Salad) to entree (Lobster Ravioli and Scallops) to dessert (Bananas Foster prepared in front of you), you will not be disappointed. The waitstaff is attentive and courteous. It is a wonderful dining experience!

The food was very salty the service could use a lot of decorum, and the atmosphere was okay, the security guards could learn some manners and learn to two face better instead acting like you have somewhere else to be.

This place is a scam. I was over charged on my shrimp cocktail and brought it up to the server, was told the menu was up to date. Was also charged $38.00 for ONE GLASS, not bottle of Moscato, also brought that up and was told more excuses. Also the light didn’t work on our table and was fed more excuses. Food is mediocre, there definitely trying to make up for what they put into it. No wonder there was only 2 tables filled in the restaurant on a Saturday. A nice restaurant in the hood .Do not waste your time and money here, go to Juniper Steakhouse at Santa Ana 10/10 for sure.

Went to the Crown Room on Valentine’s Day Great Meal Chef is amazing. But I wanted a bigger table and was told we could not have a different table. There was only 3 couples in the place. I think the lady who was sitting people was full of herself. When your paying that munch money for drinks and a meal you should be able to have a nice big table.

Wait until they hire a chef before you dine here. Beautiful space and atmosphere, wonderful service. French onion soup had way to much salt, the consistency was off, baguette was sliced whole and placed on top, hard as a rock. Steaks were improperly prepared and very inconsistent cook, med, med well med rare on the same chewy bland steak. Au poivre is not shallots, cream and dijon, but the line cook seems to think so.Asparagus was butter and lots of pepper, truffle mashed potatoes were missing the truffle, tasted instant and were very dense.
Very disappointing falsely advertised as elegant fine dining.

Fantastic meal and service. A true 5 star experience one would expect of a fine dining restaurant. Our server, Lucas, was a joy and catered to our every need. I can’t recommend The Crown Room more.

When you pay $150 for a dinner for 2 you would expect the best service and amazing food. Only one of those was delivered.
The service is excellent. The servers know the restaurant is high class and act like it, taking pride and consideration in their service. Their respect to the ambiance of the establishment is evident.
The food, on the other hand, is horrid. The steak overdone and inconsistency cooked. The soup is salty to the point of being ineditable. The potatos are obviously from a box. Lastly the greens are overcooked, bland, and underseasoned.
In conclusion, wait till a new chef is hired to even think about visiting.

My wife and I celebrated our 55th wedding anniversary with our son and daughter in law there last night. What an amazing night. The food was fantastic. We had appetizers of chipotle duck relleno and scampi ravioli, that was to die for. Our meals were cooked to perfection. The wait staff was so attentive. Our hats are off to the chef and his staff!! That was our first time there we we will definitely be back!!!!
