I didn’t catch the girls name who took our order and got us our food but she was phenomenal. She had darker hair and was wearing a green sweatshirt. We could not read what drinks they had due to the sun glaring and she had 0 issue reading them to us. She also made sure we got the extra sauce we asked for and to top it all off she waved and said goodbye to my 3 year old who adores the attention back. The food was delicious!!! Thank you Whitts Barbecue!!

I hate to do this but I can’t help it. I have been eating at this location since I was a child and never have I ever had pork taste so dry. I promise this has to be turkey but they have argued me up and down that it is pork. Maybe because the last few times I have ate Lawler’s but it was horrible. I’ve never known pork to have skin in it. Terrible experience! I may be wrong but I’ve also never been giving the brown vinaigrette sauce served with it. 2/22/24

Whitt’s has always been one of my favorite places to get pulled pork BBQ. Started eating Whitt’s over 30 years ago. This visit, October 16, 2023, I got the #3 family pack. I added a pint of potato salad and a pint of baked beans. $51!! I know everything is expensive nowadays but I thought that a little high. The pulled pork was delicious as always. I absolutely love the vinegar slaw. The baked beans we very good. The potato salad, !! That was the most awful tasting potato salad I have ever had. It didn’t even look like potato salad. When I opened it it had what looked like oil on the top, little puddles. It looked like someone had combined potato salad and coleslaw. It was not a mustard based potato salad. There weren’t any chunks of potato. It was kind of just mushed potatoes. I took two bites and threw it in the garbage. I gave the food four stars for everything else. I’d give the potato salad negative stars.

I have tried BBQ from Texas to South Carolina, and from Mississippi to Kentucky and to Kansas City. If pulled pork is your favorite, then a trip to Whitt’s in Athens is worth the effort. Yes, there are other Whitt’s, but this one is just special.

I review restaurants across many platforms. Whitts in Athens is very good! Their vinegar based sauce is delicious!!! However, I have found inconsistency in their meat. Most occasions is perfect but I have gotten food at times when the meat was very dry.

Whitt’s is the best and always will be. Many other BBQ places add all sorts of strange flavors to their food thinking that they’ll make it better or a bit different which is great but the flavors shouldn’t be all that you taste.
Whitt’s has been in my life for as long as I can remember. I have family from all over the States. They order up pounds of Whitt’s BBQ to carry home to freeze. They’ve tried other kinds and you can’t beat Whitt’s.
