Quaint country café in Teague, Texas. A number of neighbors recommended Cookies for soul food and yes that’s exactly what her sign says out front. I included pictures of the menu, and at first glance it appears that soul food at Cookies is regular country cooking. The food here is no different from any other country café in any other small town in Texas not bad, not great, food you could’ve made it home. However, our server who said our plates offered to bring a full serving of cabbage to my guest and never did. We asked the second server who covered for the first one and she never brought anything that was offered either now we ordered two lunch specials at $13.49 a plate that included one meat and two sides. I asked for a small salad as a side, and was given that I was not told of any extra charge. My guess never received her full serving of her second side, and although the food tasted very good, our total bill was $33 and some change. I never received a ticket so I don’t know exactly what I paid for but 1350 and 1350 is $27 so unless I paid extra for the salad and/ or tea. I’m not sure where the extra $6 charge came from. No one offered to explain either. The service was the worst I’ve experienced since I moved to this small town area. If you’re at work around Teague and want to go to Cookies and money is no object, then by all means stop in. But it’s not worth what they charge at all. Note: would the manager please respond to this review and explain to me what I paid an extra six dollars for? Please and thank you

Down to earth and a family owned place. A small lunch buffet always homemade food. Along with a full menu to choose from. Must try the banana pudding. Remember to save me a serving of banana pudding…

This is not soul food, this should be called country cooking. A friend recommended this place to me. Let’s start with the Pros, large portions, sweet cornbread and good Kool aid. Here are the cons the coating on the country fried steak was good, however the steak was very chewy. The mashed potatoes were not cooked through all the way and the green beans were canned and tasteless even though they were cooked with pork pieces. This is a place for locals, not out-of-towners. Furthermore I wasn’t greeted up on entry they werent rude but still, I wasn’t greeted. I probably wouldn’t eat there again.

This restaurant came highly recommended but from the time we walked in the door the waitress was very very rude. I can’t remember a time we ever had such a hateful waitress in my life. Then when we went to order they were out of everything we tried to order, so we decided to leave and the waitress through a big fit and demanded we pay for drinks we didn’t even drink, she threatened to call the police over it. In my 60+ years I never experienced anything like this. I just wonder if she would of been so hateful and rude if Cookie herself was there that day.
We would of loved to try the food there I have been told Cookie is a wonderful cook and this restaurant is nothing special but the down home food is fantastic.
such a shame your waitstaff can ruin a good restaurant.

Very tasty American diner. The huge portions and tasty options will not leave your stomach empty. I had a bacon cheeseburger and it was delicious. My mother opted for the chicken fried steak sandwich which was nearly bigger than her plate. Customer service was also extremely good. Our waitress was wonderful, and very kind to us.

My wife and I were on a road trip and stopped in on a whim. This place has excellent food. Potions are generous. But let me tell you, the fried catfish is THE BEST I have had in years. The corn meal breading was spiced perfectly. You will not go wrong here. Keep up the good work. Awesome good and a good family owned business.
