Went in to a moderately lit and virtually empty dining room to be greeted by an older gentleman who was sitting watching an American football game. We were quickly seated and our waiter took our drink order. Her returned quickly while the older gentleman returned to his corner area where he returned to his seat watching the game. Our order was taken and onion soup and salad brought out. Crispy lettuce and shaved carrots with fresh salad dressing, it was the highlight of the meal. The onion soup was Luke warm at best. Soon after our entrees arrived. The chicken was dry and tough. The sauce was bland. Service suffered after the entrees arrived. We did not see the waiter till we had gotten up to pay the bill. All in all it was OK but will not be my 1st choice next time.

I really wanted to like this place. The food was actually pretty good. They just don’t give you enough. Especially the chicken and steak. Looked like a kids portion. Too many carrots they weren’t very good and extremely light on the proteins. At 14 a plate I truly expect more. Won’t go back…. go to wytheville for better hibachi.

AWFUL!! i have reviewed several restaurants across the states. but when i say this is bad, this is REALLY bad. it smelled horrible in there for starters, and there was nobody in there. so already that’s a bad sign for dinner time. this was by far the worst service, atmosphere and food i have ever had. the yum yum sauce tasted like it was mixed with miracle whip. horrible. all the ingredients you can tell were from walmart. the steak was tough and dry, the carrots were overcooked, and the portion was enough to feed a toddler. the water had a very weird taste as well. the workers just sit at a table playing games on their phones. plus the food was made way too quickly to be fresh. overall just awful. i’m honestly shocked this place is still in business

There was very little actual meat in my overly small portioned hibachi meal. Just tiny pieces of pork. The flavor was off and the fountain Pepsi seemed weak. This place is very dated and needs a remodel. The staff was nice however, so they earned a second star.

If you want a delicious Japanese meal, go to the Mt. Airy location. Or anywhere else.
This place used to be amazing. I picked up 2 take out dishes on 8/28/2025. The prices have gone up, which I understand. There is plenty of rice. The veggies and meat were sparse. Which I didn’t expect compared to what they did before.
And the Shrimp Sauce or Yum Yum sauce was awful. It was insanely thick and the taste was unlike anything I’ve had anywhere. Even the grocery store version was better than whatever mixture they served up.

Very limited menu and not accurate. Ordered jumbo shrimp and received just regular shrimp. Tasted okay,but portions are small. With a Japanese name of “Kyoto” you’d expect sushi, but that’s not what they sell. Overall, I wouldn’t eat here again.

Small protein portions. Low quality. Not seasoned at all. Go to Bamboo Garden in the same parking lot, or if you want good Japanese, travel to Mt Airy for Shikorah.
